Trisha Krishnan who had earlier made her debut in Bollywood with Piyadarshan’s film Khatta Meetha but disappeared after her debut which had flopped like nobody’s business, declared that it was her dream to be part of a period film like Ponniyin Selvi 1 directed by Mani Ratnam and that too o top of it as a an august princess and she is happy that said that she is indeed thankful to Mani Sir for having considered her for the project.
Trisha who plays the role of Kundavai in Mani Ratnam’s film Ponniyin Selvi 1 confesses that Mani Ratam had warned her not to be friends with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on the sets and said that he wanted both of them to have a bit of rivalry with each other on the sets because they play rivals in the film. While playing the part of Kundavai, I felt that I was taking a little bit of Trish and putting it in there.
The film PS 1 revolves around the Chola dynasty and is based on the popular Tamil novel of the same name, written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The film required Trisha to dress like a princess. While being part of a period movie was on her list for a long time, getting ready for the part came with its own challenges.
Trisha continues. “I was very nervous on day one, which is normally a very rare emotion for me to feel. And it was a scene with me in a courtroom with 10 other men. So that was basically Kundavai at her peak,“ says Trisha, who confesses that she could easily relate to Kundavai. “Kundavai is very me. I am used to feeling empowered but unfortunately not all women get that. It was nice. It felt that this part of Kundavai was taking a little bit of Trisha and putting it in there.”
Trisha signs off, ““It was very tough. I didn’t think it would be this challenging. We all had to wake up at three in the morning. Make-up would take like an hour and then another one hour just for costumes and jewelry. We had Kishen Das, who did a great job with the jewelry and Eka (Lakhani) helped with fitting into the clothes.”
