Rahman who does not make his appearance at any press conference of any of his films made an exception and made sure that he was present with his mentor Mani Ratnam at the prerelease event of his latest film Ponniyin Selvi 1 at the PVR Icon at Versova in Mumbai. Rahman thundered in praise of Mani Ratnam that Mani Ratnam‘s film is the result of search of excellence and imagination and added that both Mani and he have this common goal of how to surpass their earlier achievements. Rahman , who made his debut as a music director on his own merit with Mani Ratnam’s film Roja way back in 1992 confessed that as far as their latest collaboration- Ponniyin Selvi 1 is concerned, it is beyond success and failure and added that he is happy that the film which had been launched before the period of Covid has managed to see the light of the day at last though in the process they had lost many of their colleagues who had worked on the project. A.R. Rahman also said that he was grateful to his mentor Mani Ratnam that when initially he was not happy with the compositions of his for PS 1.
