Yaar, Ranveer ko toh main kya dunga. Like, he doesn’t need anything. He’s got everything. Him, Varun Dhawan are the only two people who are in the culture and are fans of Hip-Hop. And, I would like to give them that credit, because a lot of people are like ki yaar yeh actors hai toh inko itna kyu deal wagera yeh sab milta hai. Like, why did he play a rapper, somebody else could have and it was okay for us rappers also because he is a man of the culture. He loves that music. He listens to our songs. So, that credit. And in return, I would like to just, de de na, apne Frankwheeler wali gaadi de dena. Aaj subah hi dekhi, achi lag rahi thi.

 What does Raftaar want to give and take from Kareena Kapoor?

What I want to give is my sense of privacy that I have. I can go to a place with a cap on, like baggy pants pehen ke apna, main kahin bhi jaa sakta hoon kuch bhi kar sakta hoon, who nahi kar sakti. Who sense of privacy main unhe dena chahta.  Raftaar opens up about how it all started for him

I started writing when I was in the 7^th grade. I remember I was sent to a hostel. Meko nahi pata tha ki main rap likh raha hoon. Rap tha bhi nahi. I was pretty good at the rhyming structures. That’s where it started, like writing songs. And, then in the 9^th grade, MP3 ka zamana aaya. This friend of mine gave me a CD. There were Eminem songs, Linkin Park songs and there was this remix of the band ‘Queen’ – ‘We Will Rock You’. Aur usmein ek chota sa rap ka portion aata hai. It was that and when I heard it, I was like yaar yeh toh bahut sahi hai. It was similar to the rhythm I was writing and it was similar to the thoughts I had. Matlab kyu baar baar sirf pyaar mohabbat kyuki I can’t relate to that. This, I can relate to. And, that’s where it started.

 The time when he decided he could do it!

Karna bilkul pehle se tha. Main aapko ekdum spasht batau toh 2006. Matlab Kachche hi maine UCB mein salesman ki job kari hai. Mere maa-baap kehte the ki koi naa tu aazmaale apni kismat. Kuch nahi hua ek dukaan khol lenge, bhuka nahi marega. Matlab, kisi bhi tareeke se you will live. You will not die. You will not be materialistic, probably. But, you will have a good life. With that, I was like man, I have no excuses to stop. So, that was like a better excuse for me. That I had nobody to say no.

When Raftaar convinced his mother that Eminem raps were nothing but motivational!

Main bolta tha ki mummy, Shaktiman bhi TV pe fuck fuck fuck karta rehta hai. Log usko dekhke puri sadko pe yahi gaate rehte hai. That’s what they did. As kids, we, not knowing what that means, we saw Shaktiman and we were like ha fuck fuck fuck fuck. Every kid has done that. ‘Lose Yourself’ mein line thi that was like ha, main phaad dunga, cheer dunga. Wahi jo hum bhi bol rahe hai, bhaiya, who bhi wahi bol rahe the. Cut to my mom walks in. Like Eminem, his songs are like entirely obscene. Toh, who sab baj rahe hai and mummy aaye and tu yeh sab kya sunta rehta hai? Cut to, maine siddha ‘Lose Yourself’ suna diya. Mummy suno, Eminem kya keh raha hai. Mummy ne suna hai yeh toh bahut motivating hai, maine kahan haa.

Rataar opens about the Mantoiyat controversy

See, I was given this song ‘Mantoiyat’. Gaana ban gaya, the lyrics were good, everything was good. It was so fine that they were so happy ki we didn’t want a song which is a hit, we want a song which is hard-hitting. And I could deliver it. Cut to I went for the video shoot. So the video shoot, whoever was shooting, had designed a set which looks like one of these ‘Keep-Up’ band videos. See, I have no idea because I don’t watch ‘Keep Up’ because it is not my kind of music. It is not my genre of music. So, I had no idea what video they are referring to. Then, the video released and everyone said that you have copied from BTS. But, what I am sad about is the fact that the real message of the song is somehow not coming out just because of this small stupid shit.

It’s my basic personality. Do season jo maine Roadies ke Neha Didi ke sath kiye hai. Main haazir jawab dena sikh gaya hoon. It’s a nice thing because sometimes they are dumb. It’s just that we can reach a lot of people. That’s the real news that needs to go out because we can help people. If we can call ourselves ‘Influencers’ and post a video for somebody who has paid us, we can also post about people who can’t pay us but will get us tons of good karma. Because that’s what we should do for each other. So, who main karta hoon. Phir kabhi kabar kya hota hai ki acha kaam jo hum karte hai uspe bhi logon ke jab troll aate hai, zabardasti jo tippaniya aati hai, unki taang kheechta hoon. Main kehta hoon agar tu merko bolne ki himmat rakh sakta hai toh let me put it up as display. Toh main ussi ko screenshot leke story pe daal deta hoon. Main kahan mahan aatma se mile aaj. Bhagwaan inko aur satbhuddhi de. And I don’t have to do anything. Then, the people who are watching it are getting agitated because they know the cause is right. Unko fame chahiye tha na, de diya. Toh main dono ke liye kaam kar raha hoon.

Raftaar about his fallout with Emiway

So basically, this was this kid who used to send me songs on my DM’s. Toh he dropped this song which was a really nice song so I write to him back saying bro, this is good song. He had already texted me a lot of times, this is when I was responding. And, he happened to be somebody I know. And, if you’ve seen me all this while, you know that I like to push talent. Waise hi maine usko bhi contact kiya and bola ki ha bro main aa raha hoon Bombay, main milta hoon terko. He came to meet me and use pehle I was already sharing a lot of his songs. Jab merko mila toh usne merko ek gana sunaya. Maine kahan ki yeh gana bahut acha hai. Not saying ki I was pushing him whole-sole but I was doing what I had to do on the side. He used to appreciate me a lot, jis din usne rap sunaya, wahan se mainsidha usko Studio leke gaya. Studio mein maine suke gaana ka thoda sa verse likha aur apne gaane ka pura verse likha aur record bhi kiya. Record karne ke baad tha ki iski video shoot karni hai. Ussi time Roadies aur yeh sab chal raha tha humara toh usmein main busy ho gaya. I went that far and I am a signed artist to a label. And, we don’t get to do all these things for everybody, right? Main who sab chodke ki main label pe hoon, hum itna charge karte hai featuring ka, collaboration ka, hum fees rakhte hai, ek set fees rakhte hai. Like Emiway is working so hard, all these years I’ve seen him work and he was my friend, so I chose him as an example because he was close, and a very good example of somebody working so hard but not getting where he is supposed to be. Who paisa nahi kama paa raha hai. He took it as an offence ki Raftaar keh raha hai ki Emiway paisa kamata hi nahi hai, ki merko gareeb bata diya. Ab woh merko uske piche bilkul samaj nahi aayi ki koi bhi who banda jo dekhega interview usko kahin se aisa nahi lagega, anybody in the right state of mind. And then he went and did what he had to do and I had to respond because I felt bad because he was like a brother.

When Hip Hop tuly hit India according to Raftaar

India mein hip-hop commercial level pe bhi, samajhne bhi lage, bachcho ko dil mein ghussa 2006 se jab Bohemias ‘Kaale Din Aale’ dropped. That is when rap entered India  in terms of rap being sung in an Indian language. Apart from Baba Sehgal, a serious version of it came with Bohemia. He gets his respect when needed and he gets the credit also. He told people that yes, you can rap in native language. Uske baad achanak se sabka start hua hai.

What does Raftaar want to give and take from Hard Kaur?

I have nothing to give and take from her, man. She is definitely not in a receiving position right now. She is too angry right now.

What does Raftaar want to give and take from Naezy?

Like, what I personally see in Naezy is also a sense of achievement. I would like to give that kids a sense of achievement. Because till now I feel, he has been appreciated by a lot of people outside, definitely. The world is singing about him, talking about him, but I don’t think he receives much love from inside. Basically, it’s a community thing, where he sees that humare mein rap karna haram hai. It’s very disheartening for somebody who has changed the whole face of this and changed it into a movie. So, I wanna give him that sense of love from within. And, what I’d like to take is the fact that he was able to do a song which turned into a movie and the movie is reaching the Oscars. Definitely, man

What does Raftaar want to give and take from Emiway?

I want him to understand that all the fame that he is getting now, all the hype he has got, all the money that is flowing in, usko sambhal lena, survive over there. A bit a wisdom. No, I want nothing from that child. Nothing. Kuch bhi nahi chahiye. The only thing that I can learn from him is fabricating the truth, and that I don’t want to learn.
