RAJKUMMAR RAO'S NEWTON IS INDIA'S OFFICIAL ENTRY TO THE OSCARS

Amit Masurkar’s political satire Newton starring Rajkummar Rao is India’s official entry in the Foreign Language Film category at the 2018 Oscars.

The selection committee of FFI  headed by Telugu producer, CV Reddy has chosen the film. According to him, Newton was a unanimous choice.

The film has won the International Federation of Art Cinemas (CICAE) award in its Forum segment at 67th Berlin Film Festival earlier this year which also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, and Raghubir Yadav along with Rajkummar Rao in lead roles.

Newton revolves around an officer who is on a mission to hold free and fair elections in a village in Chhattisgarh.

Rajkummar took to Twitter to share the news.

Many Bollywood celebrities are congratulating Newton's team on Twitter.

Newton will compete, among others, with Ruben Ostlund’s The Square from Sweden, Fatih Akin’s In the Fade from Germany, Angelina Jolie’s First They Killed My Father from Cambodia, Sebastian Lelio’s A Fantastic Woman from Chile, Farhan Alam’s Sawan from Pakistan and Robin Campillo’s BPM: Beats Per Minute from France.
