Rapper and eco-activist Sofia Ashraf lends her support to Oxfam Trailwalker India

The 'Kodaikanal Won’t' creator voices support for Oxfam India's campaign for gender equality.

Digital content creator, rapper and writer Sofia Ashraf is the dynamic voice of social and environmental awareness.

She has addressed the issue of social conditioning and moral policing of young women in our society

publive-imageShe created a sensation with her 2015 video, 'Kodaikanal Won’t’ the video highlighting the health and the ecological impact due to mercury poisoning by an MNC garnered over 4 million views after which the MNC compensated nearly 600 of its ex-employees.

Through her work she has also addressed the issue of social conditioning and moral policing of young women in our society.

She has now joined Oxfam India’s Virtual Trailwalker Challenge to #WalkForHer and create awareness and end gender-based discrimination.

Every year, Oxfam India organises its Trailwalker challenge as a massive 'Walkathon for a Cause' to mobilise support for India's most vulnerable and marginalized communities.

Last year, in the wake of the pandemic, the walkathon went virtual. The participants walked in solidarity with migrant workers and this year, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Oxfam Trailwalker virtual-challenge will address inequality and gender-based discrimination.

The participants will walk to support Oxfam India’s work on empowering communities and promoting equality for all.

In 2020, we saw women being hit the hardest by social, economic and gender disparity amid the pandemic.

It is time to talk about these issues in a louder voice and synergise to create a movement that works towards creating gender parity in an unequal society."

She speaks her mind and never holds back to point out injustices and discrimination and has a lot in common with Oxfam.

We too speak truth to power and stand up for the most marginalised to end discrimination.

We need allies like Sofia to promote gender equal spaces in every sphere. Her voice can amplify our work and we are proud to have her as one of our champions for this year's Trailwalker."
