Bittu Shukla (Bhupendra Jadawat), a simpleton from a small town and aspiring cricketer, has a huge crush on Sapna from childhood (Gayatri Bhardwaj). How Bittu discovers his love ultimately and goes to tremendous lengths to fulfil them is what the crux of the sweet little story is.
Sapna is his childhood sweetheart, but their relationship is one-sided because he does not have the guts to express his feelings to her, though Bittu is the type of aashiq who will go to great lengths to fulfil Sapna’s wishes, including buying her an iPhone for her birthday, just because he overhears her telling her friend that she was ready to fall in love with the guy who gifts her an iPhone.
You really are compelled to go with the naive and vulnerable Bittu who is ready to stake all that he has for the sake of his childhood love without any hesitation.
The film’s basic appeal comes from its sheer simplicity in conveying the emotion of first love in Chunar, a small village near Varanasi and is definitely a charming and sentimental love story and the small-town slice-of-life movie will warm the cockles of your heart.
Debutant Bhupendra Jadawat steals the scenes with his naivety an also excels in moments when he plays cricket, and succeeds in performing a good job as the sweet lover boy Bittu.
Gayatri Bharadwaj, who makes her acting debut as the girl next door, is promising and well-cast. It goes however to the credit of Priyansh Jora that he is able to do an excellent job at portraying his character, though it is not at all author backed and to top it, it is a negative role.
Vicky, the owner of a gadget shop, is the local stud who can impress any girl, but he has his sights set on Sapna. This leads to a big squabble between Bittu and Vicky, and Sapna has to choose between a simple guy like Bittu, who is too timid to proclaim his love for her and a dashing and slightly wealthy Vicky, who does not seriously love her but wants to just have a fling with her.
Gayatri Bhardwaj makes a confident debut as Sapna, an innocent young woman who doesn't comprehend people or their malicious intentions, but knows what's best for her future.
As the girl next door, she is promising and well-cast. However, the girl who steals the scenes with her wonderful performance is none other than newcomer Aayushi Lahiri who plays the sister of Bittu, who, though she does not have an author backed role and even the PR of the film did not bother to send details of her small character, has done a wonderful job.
If you ask me for my opinion of the film, I’d say that though the plot of 'Ittu Si Baat' is predictable from the beginning, and even the producer Lakshman Uttekar and the leading lady did not even bother to attend the press show, this old-school love tale has enough charms to appeal to the audience, it is extremely charming nevertheless
