After Bhaukal, Only For Singles and Ek Thi Begum, MX Player has dropped yet another out and out erotic web series, Mastram. The first season of Mastram released on April 30, 2020 has 10 episodes, each vying to be more erotic than the other. The plot is not something which is 100% original as we have already seen a film also called Mastram ironically made with the same heroine Tara Alisha Berry seven years ago at the MAMI Film Festival in Mumbai.
The story of Mastram revolves around a writer, Rajaram, (Anshuman Jha) who is considered a boring and bland failure guy by the publishing house. His life takes a turn when he discovers that inspiration is hidden in everyday life and he starts spinning yarns and turning them into sleazy books that become an instant hit, with not only the youth but also the oldies, both males as well as females.
The web series is about Rajaram, a small town guy who dreams of becoming a reputed writer. His literature aspirations are supported by his uncle with whom he stays. No one including his would be wife Madhu (Tara-Alisha Berry) knows that he is actually Mastram. In his search for finding a publisher for his book, he comes across publisher (Vipin Sharma) who agrees only if he is ready to add sensational elements or masala to his bland and dull tale.
Though he is unable to decode masala for a long time, he becomes richer with experience when he accosts different girls in different shapes and sizes and flavors in his day to day journey in the small village itself, who show him the spicier side of life. He adopts the pseudonym of Mastram and churns out his publicly taboo novel series, which is a bestselling book. He becomes extremely popular but not as Rajaram but as Mastram which he adopts as his pen name.
It is strange that the producer does not wish to be known by his name but just as Almighty Motion Picture. Director Aryan Sunil does a good job of weaving together a series which is not only logical but also able to keep up its tempo by sustaining itself in episode after episode. While Anshuman Jha is excellent as the novelist who assumed the pseudonym of Mastram, the other handpicked actors too are good in their respective roles.
Special mention ought to be made of the Bhojpuri actress Rani Chatterjee who is uninhibited as a street seller while showing her ample curves and Jignesh Joshi as Ladhu’s son Anil in the village. As the mood swinging way ward comic uncle, Jagat Rawat shows promise while. Shikha Sinha as the innocent Sonu Dhoban is good while Garima Jain as Indurekha titillates as the ready to go to any extent actress. Ashmita Jaggi as lady cop Geetu and Abha Paul as the Mallu aunty Sarita Nair are okay.
The best thing about the web series is that it is a blend of eroticism and content at its best and ‘arouses’ up the voyeur in you!
