Rating-** Jyothi Venkatesh Raghava lives with his son Arjun in Lucknow and works as a head cook with a Brahmin catering unit. Raghava leads a very peaceful non violent existence and only wants the very best for his young eight year old son. All seem to go on very well, until one day some skeletons come out tumbling from his well guarded closet and he is forced to take on his original avatar By the time the film is half way through you can easily close your eyes and predict what’s going to happen in the film. It is nothing but Tharun’s blatant and unabashed attempt to make his own version of te Tamil film Baashha, the Rajiikant blockbuster that has been copied countless times since 1995. It is high time that the filmmakers realize that the tried-and-tested template of Baashha itself is of no value without any novel creative imagination. Roberrt is so full of clichés. In fact, I’d say that it has a simple plot that is replete with clichés, such as good-hearted gangsters and a beautiful but haughty heroine (Asha Bhat) , last seen with Vidyut Jamwal in a side role in Jungle, who is ‘tamed’ by the hero. She abandons her western clothes and ways and jumps into traditional half-saris just to impress the hero, who seems double her age. As far as performances are concerned, I’d say that Darshan plays his part to the T, even at times playing to the gallery, with dialogues that are sure to be lapped up by the masses whereas Asha Bhat just about sashays on the screen and displays her glamour to the hilt though acting wise she leaves a lot to be desired. A typical formula film ought to have dumb and evil villains in an abundant measure in order to project the honest do gooder hero in a very positive light. And hence Jagapathi Babu, Ravi Kishan and P Ravi Shankar are brought into the picture with the sole intention to make our hero look smart. While the screenplay as well as the dialogues are interesting enough to propel your attention and make you remain glued to your seat, editing by K.M Prakash leaves a lot to be desired. Whatever the merits or demerits of the formula film, it has the kind of a plausible plot that people may lap up with eagerness especially since Darshan is the leading man in the film. Damn the fact that it is nothing but a rehash of the Tamil hit Bassha. It is hackneyed but nevertheless engaging! Related Articles Advertisment Latest Stories Read the Next Article
