Review Shiddat: With fresh faces, this love story is made with complete 'shiddat' By Team Bollyy 01 Oct 2021 | Updated On 01 Oct 2021 06:04 IST in Latest Trending News & Gossip New Update Follow Us Share Making romantic films in Bollywood is the same as making lentils(pulses) and rice at home. The color of lentils may change but the combination does not change and often the taste does not change either. But Kunal Deshmukh is one such romantic filmmaker who brings a new flavor every time, even in a similar story by making new tadka, new spices. Kunal has earlier made films like Jannat, Jannat 2, Tum Mile and Raja Natwarlal, He knows very well how to keep the thrill even in a romantic drama film. Along with this, the producers of the film Dinesh Vijan and Bhushan Kumar are also seen putting their hands in good films these days. The story begins with a wedding ceremony, Gautam Kapoor (Mohit Raina) narrates the story of his love and how he gives his heart to 'Ira' (Diana Penty) in the same class while learning French. The wedding also includes some gate crasher Jaggi aka Joginder (Sunny Kaushal) and his friends who have just come to drink, eat, and drink for free. But when Gautam gives a speech on seeing his grandfather's ring, Jaggi forgets that he is a gate crasher and reaches to praise the speech, which gets him caught and thrown out of the marriage. Then the story takes a gap of three years and where jaggi gets trapped with some Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan refugees in the plains of France. Now Jaggi is caught before going to London and they put him into the detention centre. Here in France, Gautam Kapoor works as a diplomat on behalf of the Indian Foreign Service and comes face-to-face with Jaggi. Jaggi tells him that he has come this far only to meet his love Kartika (Radhika Madan). The story then goes into flashback for 3 months and it is shown how Jaggi met Karthika and both fell in love. Though the story revolves around a desperate love story, the treatment of the film is completely new and for this the writers' Sridhar Raghavan and Dheeraj Ratan deserve praise. The dialogues of the film are also good. "If you had not met me in France, you would have met me in London, would have met in Germany, would have met you in some village, in some street, in some street, because you had to meet me, because you are my destiny." The essence of the entire film is based on this dialogue itself. Apart from this, the humours dialogues are also very pestilential. Director Kunal Deshmukh did not let the film slow down, twists and turns were kept coming and despite being a romantic drama film, there were no chances to take your eyes off the screen. But the ending turned out to be very absurd due to over twisting, and the special last 7 minutes worked to push the film from the top of the mountain to the bottom. The person who wrote the character of Sunny Kaushal 'Jaggi Sehgal' should also be praised because this character is such that it gets the heart, it initially seems like Azhel, Badtameez, cheap, unyielding, overconfident but slowly- Slowly falls in love with this character. There is no need to compare Sunny Kaushal with his elder brother 'Vicky Kaushal' in the acting. His acting style, body language, dialogue delivery are all totally different and definitely fresh. Yes, at some places he definitely appears to be a fan of Ranveer Singh, but overall Sunny Kaushal had this film on his shoulders and he played his character the same way. Mohit Raina has been seen doing justice to his character. His acting is not only good, his expressions are also wonderful. Diana Penty and Radhika Madan cried a lot, both of them probably had some competition which Radhika has won due to being the lead actress. Diana is good in small roles too, Radhika is a good actress but her expressions are very limited, if you have seen Angrezi Medium and Pataakha then you can understand this better. Supporting cast has acted very well, both the friends of Sunny Kaushal have very good comic timing. The music of the film is composed by the hard work of many music directors like Lassi, but mainly it has 3 songs by Manan Bhardwaj, in which original is the title track of only Shiddat with the male voice Manan Bhardwaj himself and the recent Sri Lankan sensation singer in the female version is Yohani . Manan's music also featured Nusrat sahib's traditional kavali 'Ankhiyon Udiq Diyan' with the voice of Master Salim, which is a good thing that it is not in the film. Yes, the traditional Punjabi wedding song 'Chitta Kukkad Banare Te' is sung very well by Manan. Along with Manan, there is also a song by Sachin-Jigar and Gaurav Das-Gupta. Overall music is good. Editing has been done by Shrikar Prasad, he has kept the entire film tight, he has not allowed any unnecessary scenes to be dragged, why did he not edit the last 7 minutes. Especially because of this extra time, the soul of the film has been destroyed. Overall, this film is a one time watch, if Kunal Deshmukh had not made bad condition of the climax in the affair of over twisting, then this film could have come in the category of must watch movie. And yes, it is very important to know the exact meaning of the word 'Shiddat', it's meaning is similar to Desperation which doesn't suit the title track at all. Also, there are many factual errors in the film, like an IFS officer was not provided even a constable, diplomat is going to office with full beard, etc., there are half a dozen. But still, if you do not have the habit of removing insects, then the film is a must watch one time.
