Every father wishes his son to carry forward his legacy—be it family heritage, business, or profession. Fathers often hope to see their unfulfilled dreams realized through their sons. But in reality, sons often (Court Kacheri legal drama family) choose to work in fields completely different from what their fathers envision. This creates frequent disagreements and tension between the two.

With a similar father-son story, TVF’s Arunabh Kumar—known for Panchayat and (Court Kacheri SonyLIV release date) Gram Panchayat—has brought Court Kacheri  to SonyLIV, streaming from August 13. Unfortunately, compared to his earlier web series, Arunabh Kumar falls short this time.

Court Kacheri Review

Story

The series revolves around the fictional small North Indian town of Sarjanpur, (Param Harish courtroom series conflict) its court premises, and the relationship between a father and son. Senior advocate Harish Mathur (Pawan Malhotra) is revered almost like a god in this court. Here, every lawyer uses every trick in the book—whether fair or foul—to ensure victory, and Harish Mathur is no exception. His razor-sharp arguments can defeat anyone.

Like every father, Harish wants his son Param (Ashish Verma) to carry forward his legacy. After getting him an LLB degree, Harish brings him to the court. But Param has decided since childhood that (Ashish Verma plays Param Mathur) he will never become a lawyer. However, fearing his father, he remains silent and eventually, against his will, lands in court one day wearing the black coat.

Harish’s assistant, Suraj Bairiya (Puneet Batra), has been waiting eight years for his first independent case. Meanwhile, Param secretly plots to escape abroad, away from both the court and his father. What happens in the end? For that, you’ll have to watch Court Kacheri.

Review

The weakest link of the series is its script. Characters aren’t well-developed, and the generational conflict doesn’t come through strongly. The voice-over technique used to express Param’s inner thoughts fails to make his character stand out.

The writers seem undecided whether to focus more on courtroom (Pavan Malhotra as lawyer Haris) tactics or the emotional father-son relationship. As a result, the emotional scenes and conflicts lack the depth that has been the hallmark of Arunabh’s earlier work.

Puneet Batra’s dialogues are the saving grace—he plays Suraj Bairiya while also writing the lines. For example: “Where there’s struggle, there’s victory” (Jahan sangharsh hai, wahi jeet hai). However, some (TVF courtroom comedy drama) dialogues feel old or copied. A popular North Indian saying goes: “Neither friendship nor enmity with doctors, lawyers (Doctor, vakil aur police ki na dosti acchi, na dushmani acchi) , and the police is good.” Batra gives it a twist: “One should stay away from a doctor’s white coat and a lawyer’s black coat ” (Doctor ke safed coat aur vakil ke kaale coat se bach ke rehna chahiye). But honestly, making remarks about clothing colors feels misplaced.

The highlight of the series is Harish Mathur taking up, free of charge, a case for a man who wants a divorce after 14 years of separation from his wife. The resolution of this case leaves an impact. Yet, the writer and director fail to capture the true sternness of Harish’s character.

Many scenes are written and filmed amateurishly—from Param being caught while making a fake marksheet, to police station incidents, to his outburst about his father. This last monologue (Court Kacheri five episode mini-series) should have been a powerful moment for every young viewer to relate to, but shallow writing ruins it. There’s no seriousness or depth anywhere. As a director, Ruchir Arun fails to deliver.

Acting

Pawan Raj Malhotra once again proves his unmatched acting skills in the role of Harish Mathur, looking completely natural in every scene. Ashish Verma is memorable as Param. Puneet Batra, as the (TVF Court Kacheri review ratings) long-suffering assistant dreaming of independent practice, performs with ease. Priyasha Bhardwaj impresses as the rookie lawyer who dares to fight against Harish Mathur, Sumali Khaniwale, reciting shayari at every turn, is also memorable. The rest of the cast performs adequately in their parts.
