On November 1, 1996, history was created when the world-famous “King of Pop,” the late Michael Jackson, visited India—specifically Mumbai. During his visit, he performed a historic live concert at the Andheri Sports Complex in front of nearly 70,000 people. The event was sponsored by Shiv Sena with the blessings of its supremo, the late Balasaheb Thackeray.

Upon his arrival in Mumbai, actress Sonali Bendre welcomed him in traditional Maharashtrian attire. Balasaheb Thackeray presented him with a silver tabla and tanpura as a token of respect. During his stay, Michael experienced Indian culture closely and even left a heartfelt note for the staff at the Oberoi Hotel, expressing his “special love” for India. He also enjoyed Indian cuisine, including dosa and butter chicken. From the airport to his hotel, massive crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of the global icon, and fans were thrilled to see his signature moonwalk.

On April 25, 2009, the “King of Pop” passed away at the age of 50. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy continues to live on. Now, that legacy is set to return to the big screen. The shooting of his biopic film ‘Michael’ has nearly been completed, and the film is scheduled for release on April 24 in India and several other countries worldwide.

The most fascinating aspect of this biopic is that Michael Jackson will be portrayed by his own blood relative—his 29-year-old nephew, Jaafar Jackson.

The film ‘Michael’ is a cinematic portrayal of the life and legacy of one of the world’s most influential artists. It goes beyond his music, tracing his journey from being discovered as a prodigious talent and lead singer of the Jackson 5 to becoming a visionary global superstar driven by relentless creative ambition. The film will also highlight some of his most memorable performances and provide a close, never-before-seen look at his life off stage.

Importantly, this will not be a sugar-coated portrayal. The film promises to present a truthful and darker narrative, including major controversies such as Leaving Neverland.

The film stars Jaafar Jackson along with Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Juliano Krue Valdi, and Miles Teller. It is being produced by Graham King, known for the Oscar-winning biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan. With its grand scale and high production value, the movie is already being considered a strong Oscar contender.

Director Antoine Fuqua has made it clear that the film will depict every aspect of Michael’s life—from his childhood struggles and the Jackson 5 era to his rise as a global superstar and the controversies that shook the world. The film will portray not only his genius but also his human side.

Who is Jaafar Jackson?

Jaafar Jackson, who brings Michael to life on screen, shares a blood relationship with the legend. He is the son of Michael’s elder brother, Jermaine Jackson. In 2025, when the first look of Jaafar in Michael’s iconic get-up was released, the world was stunned. He not only resembles Michael in appearance but also carries the same aura and charisma.

Jaafar is not just similar in looks—he is also a talented singer and dancer like his uncle. For him, this film is more than just a project; it marks his global debut. Reports suggest that his voice closely resembles Michael’s, and some songs in the film may feature Jaafar’s actual vocals.
Since the trailer of ‘Michael’ went viral, industry experts believe this film will be a major turning point in Jaafar’s career. He has been training in music since the age of 12. According to those present on set, when Jaafar performed the moonwalk during filming, many people were moved to tears, feeling as if Michael himself had returned.

Jaafar received training from individuals who had previously worked with the real Michael Jackson, including his former dancers and collaborators, ensuring even the slightest detail—especially the iconic moonwalk—remained authentic.

To maintain realism and accuracy, parts of the film were reportedly shot at the real Neverland Ranch, where Michael once lived.
Jaafar’s dedication is evident from the fact that he spent nearly two years training for up to 10 hours a day to master Michael’s walk, voice, and mannerisms.

‘Michael’ is not just a film—it is a final salute to the King of Pop.
