Rs 15 crore set for Kalank

There's no one like Karan Johar when it comes to production and it's values, and now, once again the ace director-producer has proved it with his upcoming feature flick, Kalank as he has changed the game once again for this one.

A team member revealed that they have built a huge set to shoot some major portions of the movie. A source from media says, “A huge set has been erected in Film City, which is under heavy security to ensure that pictures of the interiors are not leaked. They are also taking extra measures to keep the look of the cast under wraps.”

The set has cost around a whopping Rs 15 crore! “Karan got Amrita Mahal Nakai to work on the set’s design and structure. They have created an old Delhi mohalla with a mahal, where filming is currently on. Kalank is set against the backdrop of the Partition. Since it’s based in the 1940s, the set has been designed keeping that particular period in mind,” adds the source. Amrita, the production designer, is a Dharma favourite who has worked on several films under the banner including Student Of The Year, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, 2 States and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

The khabri explains, “The film is special to Karan because his dad Yash Johar was keen that this project should materialise. Karan wants to make sure it’s one of the biggest films he’s ever produced. He wanted the whole set to express the grandeur and scale of Kalank.”

While Varun started filming first and has already shot a song, Alia joined him a few days ago. The other members of the cast are likely to start shooting soon.
