Salman Khan Emerges As The Top Bollywood Newsmaker Of 2019

 Bollywood proved its mettle once again this year with back to back blockbusters and impressive movies like Gully Boy, Badla, Mission Mangal etc. Wizikey, Asia’s first PR and communication platform has collated interesting trends across the Bollywood industry using it’s AI and ML-based Technology and created a report on the Top Newsmakers of 2019 in this category.

This year was also surrounded by lots of gossips including the closeness in Alia and Ranbir, Bollywood Mela at Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta's Wedding and Priyanka Chopra Jonas creating a lot of buzz in Hollywood. While the grand old industry continued its trend of prominence some stars overshadowed the others. Here are the top newsmakers in the Bollywood category for the year 2019.

Moving away from the whole hit and run fiasco, Salman Khan in 2019, was able to successfully put all that behind him and generate visibility for himself through his movies like Dabangg 3 and Bharat. Like every year, Bigg Boss also added to the star’s visibility throughout the show’s season. There were some rumours surrounding the second edition of Kick which were soon squashed by Sajid Nadiadwala to the dismay of many of Salman’s fans.

Akshay Kumar’s year in the media’s spotlight was dominated by news surrounding his movie Mission Mangal which told the story of how India reached the red planet. The actor was also in the news for his upcoming movies like Laaxmi Bomb, Housefull 4 and Good Newzz. Akshay closed the year on an unrelated note though when his application for Indian citizenship was widely covered in the media.

The Quantico actor had a healthy amount of visibility in the media in 2019. Although not all of it was positive with a petition to remove Priyanka Chopra as the UN Goodwill Ambassador, the release of her film, The Sky is Pink made up for it in the latter part of the year. Her recent induction into the Jonas family also meant she was mentioned alongside the brothers most of which came during Joe Jonas’ wedding with Sophie Turner.

It is no surprise that SRK was one of the biggest newsmakers of the year. Even though SRK has had no major releases in 2019, he was constantly in the news throughout the year. This is a testament to how big a brand SRK is and how you can not talk Bollywood without mentioning Shah Rukh Khan. SRK’s appearance on David Letterman’s show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, was the talk of the town for quite a while and as always the king’s birthday was celebrated with the same intensity as a festival like Diwali or Holi.

Alia Bhatt had a stellar year both on the screen and in the media’s limelight. The young star was in the news from start to finish of the year. Having started the year with engagement plans with Ranbir in 2020 to closing the year with awards for the super hit film, Gully Boy. It is safe to say Alia has been able to successfully transform her image in the media from a rather misinformed, dumb teen to a rising star of incredible potential.
