That morning, the well known lyricists Anjaan and his brother, Gopal Pandey who was the leading PRO of the time where sitting in their drawing room and planning out their day's schedule, when the door bell rang and Anjaan opened the door only to see his son Sameer entering the apartment - Ali Peter John

Anjaan was shocked to see his son and asked him what he had come to Bombay for and Sameer told him,“main bhi aapke jaise Bambai mei apni taqdeer aazmaane aaya hoon. Main aapke jaisa geetkaar banna chahta hoon".

And before Sameer could say a word more, both Anjaan and his brother, Gopal started pushing Sameer out of the door and Anjaan told him,“mujhe yahaan 22 saal lage apna pehla geet likhne ke liye.

Main tumhara baap hoon, main tumhe aise zindagi jeene ke liye chod nahi sakta. Aur ek toh yeh ghar bhi mera nahi hai, tumhare chacha ka hai, main tumhe yahaan ek minute bhi rehne nahi dunga.

Nikal jaao yahan se aur dekh lo Bambai tum par meharbaan hoti hai ki nahi." And Sameer left the house and went to his sister's house in Malad and started working as a salesman for some soap powder and soaps.

It was a very tough life living in a little room with his sister and her family, but Sameer had decided not to give up, come what may. He was bald when he was 23 and was growing more bald due to the struggle he had to go through in Bombay.

He kept meeting composers who kept rejecting him. He was shattered when composers Shyam Sagar who was his father's dear friend tore the paper on which he had written a song and told him that what he had written was ‘bakwas' and threw the pieces of papers outside his window.

Sameer however found two good friends, Anand and Milind, who were the son's of composer Chitragupt, who was a very dear friend of Anjaan.

Anand,Milind and Sameer formed a team and scored the music for “Ab Ayega Maza". The film was not a hit, but the music, and especially the song written by Sameer were hits.

The success of the music led Sameer to work with composers like Anu Malik, Jatin- Lalit and some other, but he stuck the right rhythm with Nadeem-Shravan and their music created a storm and when Sameer won three Filmfare awards in a row, his father Anjaan who sad in the crowd cried with joy and said,“Maine jo poori zindagi mei nahi kiya, woh mere bete ne ek saal mei karke dikhaya. Mujhe garv hai aise bete par".

Sameer wrote more than10,000 songs in the next few years, he was not accepted as a very great poet, but he made sure that he was accepted as the most successful songwriter.

A journalist from Mayapuri called Arun Kumar Shastri was writing a book on Sameer, but an English journalist Derrick Bose managed to bring out his book on Sameer first, which gave Sameer all the name and fame, but which brought frustration in the life of Arun Kumar Shastri from which he could never recover.

Sameer has not been as prolific as he was some years ago and the reason is said to be the breakup and dissolution of the team of Nadeem- Shravan. Sameer recently changed his name to Sameer Anjaan to do a show called ”Safarnama", but the show has still not worked any wonders.

But Sameer is a very satisfied man when it comes to materialistic success. His daughters are married and have settled down. He has two apartments in Mumbai, a house in Lucknow and a huge and beautiful farm house in Lonavla.
