What is the best thing about your company Drishyam?

The best thing about my company Drishyam is that we believe in the content and the story and always back it up without worrying about the economics or the cost or for that matter the percentage of returns. We do not speculate but take a calculated risk. I back a film because I love the story. The story of Kaamyaab stayed with me, irrespective of what it does at the box office by way of business. Consistency has helped us and big productions like Red Chillies has noticed us and it gives us more confidence to go back home and do more such films

What made you back a film like Kaamyaab with an actor like Sanjay Mishra as the protagonist?

The 2 page synopsis of Kaamyaab gave us the confidence. You would also have got the confidence and felt he was the perfect choice, if you had got the two page synopsis first. Sanjay Mishra is a chameleon as a versatile actor in the film industry with a vast experience. He was Rajat Kapoor’s choice and I went with him when both of us agreed on him.

How easy or difficult was the casting for Kaamyaab?

Kaamyaab was a film which was full on entertainment quotient though I would not call it a potboiler. It touched the right chord. You have a character whose journey you want to back and root for his success as an underdog. It was as universal as it gets. As you feel for his failure and not for his success as an underdog. The casting was easy and not at all an issue, as once we got Deepak Dobrial and Sanjay Mishra, the rest was easy, casting wise. Kaamyaab is for us about being complete in every possible way, not just being successful. It is being successful in every aspect of life.

Is it true that you are also planning to get into regional filmmaking, particularly Marathi?
I am working right now for a company in Africa. That’s how I continue to earn my salary. I am still working with that company. Filmmaking is the team and I am their face. I feel that I can still write stories and tell tales. We have already completed making our first ever Marathi film. A young director is helming it and we are working on the post production right now. The name of the film is Ghaat. We are also making a film called Aadhaar with Shravni Deodhar. We have already completed making Seema Pahwa’s Ram Prasad Ki Thervi. Both the films were showcased in MAMI, besides Kaamyaab.
