Shailendra Singh Celebrates India’s Unsung Heroes

Making his way through the country in a never-done-before journey, entertainment, sports and brand guru Shailendra Singh’s One India. My India rally has been facilitating uncelebrated heroes across the country. The rally commenced on October 2nd from Kanyakumari and has a unique mission - to spread peace, love, and unity in the nation through his Anthem4good. The rally will travel through 15 cities by road all the way to Kashmir, highlighting its landscapes and bringing together its people through music.

With this aim in sight, the Ek Bharat Mera Bharat rally has covered Kanyakumari, Kochi, Coimbatore, Bangalore and Hampi, meeting inspiring people working for change in their cities.

The Kanyakumari Jawans

At the rally’s flag off from the Southern tip of India, Singh was welcomed by the Kanyakumari Jawans, a group of army and police officers who when not on duty serve the nation by engaging in great community service across Kanyakumari. As crusaders of social welfare in the city, they plant trees, conduct cleaning drives and assist the city communities. Shailendra Singh, with over 40 of these heroes, planted several trees as part of their action plan to save the environment.

Mesh Manoharan of Kochi

After receiving the supportive wishes of the Kanyakumari Jawans, the OIMI rally moved to Kochi where Singh met the man who saved over 70 people in the span of two days during the devastating 2018 Kerala floods. Mesh Manmohan, a commercial diver, and licensed scuba diving instructor, was instrumental in bringing the state back on its feet and found inspiration in Singh’s endeavour.

Chennai’s Sai Vignesh at Coimbatore

Shailendra Singh’s One India. My India rally met 18-year-old animal activist Sai Vignesh who is working to build a sanctuary for animals in Chennai. Apart from the enriching experience of exchanging their common passion for the country in different ways, Sai was in for a surprise when Singh decided to donate an undisclosed amount to help build his sanctuary in Chennai. This will contribute to Sai’s crowd-funding efforts for the sanctuary.

Bangalore’s Dr. Sunilkumar Hebbi and Dr. Ramana Rao

Continuing to touch hearts, Shailendra Singh met two doctors conducting tangible change in Bangalore and across the country. Dr. Sunilkumar Hebbi has been changing lives on the go providing ‘health on wheels’ with his mobile car clinic. As an advocate of the right to health for Indians, his meeting with Singh reiterated their mission of the country’s greater good. Singh also met Dr. B Ramana Rao, an Indian physician and cardiologist, who runs the world's biggest free health clinic in Bangalore. The Padmashree awardee has been offering health care to rural people free of cost for the last 36 years which has healed over 2 million Indians.

Shiva from Hampi

In Hampi, Singh met Shiva from Hyderabad who has saved 100+ people from committing suicide. His initiative, the "Swarg Seva Sanstha", takes the responsibility of unknown dead bodies found in the lake and performs their funeral rites. He also assists the treatment and medicines of homeless beggars. Aside from working with the Lake police, Shiva receives little support and recognition from the State. Singh commended his efforts of reaching out to the helpless, even though he encounters domestic sewage, industrial effluents and accumulated toxic wastes from jumping into the lake repeatedly.

The One India. My India rally will continue to spotlight local groups and unsung heroes like Shiva, Dr. Hebbi, Sai Vignesh, Mesh Manoharan and the Kanyakumari Jawans, making the statement that India is what it is today because of people like them and their selfless contributions. Stay tuned on social media to track the rally’s reach and experience over the next eight cities till Kashmir where it culminates.
