Sharad Kelkar Debuts As A Producer With A Marathi Film

After being a successful actor and writer in the Indian film and television industry for a decade-and-a-half, Sharad Kelkar is excited about adding another feather to his hat. He is debuting as a producer with the Marathi film, Idak. It’s his passion for bringing good stories to the screen that encouraged him to turn producer. Talking about it, Sharad says, “I’ve always been in love with good storytelling. The idea behind becoming a producer is to come up with impactful stories, have an efficient team to paint them well and support them and the projects with adequate infrastructure. I’ve always been a valuer of regional cinema and making a Marathi film for my debut as a producer is like going back to my roots. Idak is the story of a 32-year-old man, Namya, who goes on a pilgrimage and is asked by his mother to sacrifice a goat.

The narrative sees the mother-son relationship and how it evolves during the journey. Directed by Deepak Gawade, the movie stars Sandeep Phatak and Usha Naik in the leading roles.Incidentally, I had the privilege of watching the film at the International Film Festival of India in Goa three years ago. Though the film has not yet been able to manage to get a release either in theatres or on any OTT platform, you need not fret, Sharad, since Idak is a damn good film and Sandeep Pathak has rendered a sterling performance in the film and I would like to watch it for the second time too. The title Idak is relevant to the film because that denotes the goat, which also plays the title role along with Sandeep Pathak
