Directed by Hansal Mehta and starring Kangana Ranaut, Simran is apparently based on the life of the supremely interesting Bombshell Bandit aka Sandeep Kaur, a Punjabi woman who got into the murky world of bank robbery to pay off gambling debts.
In the film, Kangana plays a Gujju housekeeping girl who is settled in the US, but there's a twist—she's a kleptomaniac, a gambler, an alcoholic, a divorcee, and amidst all of this, highly ambitious. With such diverse personality traits to explore, this seems like a role that is right up Kangana's alley. But the question is, will the actress leave an impact on the viewers with her performance? And will Mehta be able to convince us with the depiction of an Indian immigrant in the US? Maanvi Kumar of Team Bollyy is at the First Day First Show to give you a low down of what you can expect.

@mehtahansal makes us root for #KanganaRanaut despite her flaws. And that brings us to the end of an entertaining 1st half. #Simran

The second half begins and right of the bat it looks slightly unconvincing. Will the film still deliver? Let's find out #Simran

We love how the background score complements the mood of the film. #Simran #KanganaRanaut

Wow! Did we just get a #DDLJ reference? "Jaa Simran Jaa, Jee Le Apni Zindagi" has such a different connotation here. #KanganaRanaut #Simran

The film's plot seems to suffer a little bit in the second half, but it still keeps you hooked. #Simran #KanganaRanaut @mehtahansal
— Bollyy (@Bollyydotcom) September 15, 2017
The plot is beginning to get on our nerves. Things falling apart way too soon and there are twists after twists. #Simran #KanganaRanaut
— Bollyy (@Bollyydotcom) September 15, 2017
#KanganaRanaut lacks her charm in the second half. She makes a fool of herself while trying to play the robber. Too over the top. #Simran

The 2nd half may have been a little cold but what a perfect ending! We were laughing our asses off! #Simran #KanganaRanaut @mehtahansal
