Evergreen Bollywood superstar awesome actress, dancing diva and guru, TV reality show judge and now singer Madhuri Dixit-Nene made her stay-at-home (53rd) Birthday celebration last evening sentimental, with only her close family members . Dozens of warm wishes from top filmy celebs and from lakhs of cheerful greeting messages from her ardent fans made her super-happy. As a ‘return birthday gift’, the multi-talented Madhuri who has recorded a soulful English single called ‘Candle’ in her dulcet voice, released a tantalizing teaser of her tuneful track, which has been very well-received. In a social media message the dignified Dixit shared, “ Thanks for all the good wishes and birthday love ! Wanted to give some love back to you.
Am sharing an exclusive preview (teaser) of my first ever single. Will share the English song soon. It's called ‘Candle’ and it's about hope, something we need in large supply right now.” Besides being a fabulous dancer and actress, Madhuri has always been a talented singer and is music-savvy. Whenever possible, the ‘’Ek Do Teen’- Tezaab’ girl has made it a point to sing ‘live’ at both live stage shows or even at reality shows. Way back in May 1998 ( much before her marriage to Dr Shriram Nene, in Oct 1999) she had hosted an exclusive private B’Day party at a smaller banquet hall on the upper level, at Hotel Holiday Inn (now Novotel) . Out here, I clearly recall that along with her graceful music-savvy mother, the modest Madhuri was humming songs loudly but in perfect sur-taal, in her mellifluous voice and playing ‘antakshari’ with us in the presence of eminent film-journalists whom she knew very well including me, Jyothi Venkatesh and few others.
Which is when, I remember, she told me, that, “someday in the future I would love to sing and record my voice.” Recently when I met her, the effervescent outspoken actress reacted, “Ever since digital era has been ushered in, it’s ‘ mutthi-mein-manoranjan’, for the current generation thanks to their hi-tech cell-phones . Only engaging films with good quality content can draw the audiences to theatres,” insists Madhuri who seemed maha-excited , with her riveting role in the laugh-riot movie ‘Total Dhamaal’ ( 2019). Besides being a on-line digital dance-coach classical Kathak danseuse Madhuri has not only ventured into (Marathi) film-production but will now release her an English pop single. “ Basically I love experimenting and stepping out of my comfort-zone and I consider singing as a channel of creative musical expression . Meanwhile Madhuri vehemently denies rumours that in future she would be involved in politics possibly as a ‘candidate’ . “ That itself is a freak comedy statement which is untrue. There is no ‘taal-mael’ at all, between me and politics,” she told me as he chuckled away.
