Smiriti Kalra's Film Going To Filmapalooza 2019 In Orlando!

Smriti Kalra recently won the Best Actor Award at the 48 Hour Film Project 2018 in Mumbai. It’s an International film competition that is held across 130 countries and this was the 10th year when the world came together to make a 7 minute short film in just 48 hours. From scripting to delivery of a complete film with original music score, from playing a 30 year old overweight woman in her first TV show, 12/24 Karol Bagh to a spunky teenager, a mentally challenged woman and finally a 24 year old woman in love with a 52 year old man in Dil Sambhal Ja Zara -- her string of experimental characters continues with her award winning short film AMBU where she plays both a man and woman. She has also co-directed the film and that won her the Best Director and Best Film Awards.  The film shall be part of the 10 best 48 Hour Film Project films contingents that goes to Filmapalooza 2019 in Orlando. How did she move to direction? Speaking on the topic, Smiriti says, ”I am a storyteller and an artist. I have been a Radio jockey and a writer early in my career. Like a painter paints as an expression of one's thoughts, a writer creates new worlds through the pen. And a film maker is also a medium of expression. To tell a story, one should paint a picture with moving images. Even as an actor, I am just medium to tell a story. As artists our roles as creators overlap all the time. And I love experimenting with acting, words and images. And AMBU is a result of such an experiment. I am happy and excited to receive the awards and now am looking forward to Filmapalooza which will held from March 6th to 9th in Orlando. I am very positive and expecting a warm response for Ambu.”
