Somy Ali holds a successful fundraiser for her NGO No More Tears in Miami, expresses gratitude to the attendees who extended support By Team Bollyy 01 Dec 2022 | Updated On 01 Dec 2022 09:30 IST in Latest Trending News & Gossip New Update Follow Us Share Somy Ali recently did a fundraiser event in Miami for her NGO, No More Tears (NMT). The Bollywood actor turned humanitarian Somy Ali opens up about it. “This was a kick-off fundraiser to our annual gala which will be held in January, which is also Human Trafficking Awareness Month. The turnout was well beyond what I had expected and this was solely because of our amazing committee who volunteer their time to plan our fundraisers. We raised a significant amount which will enable us to save more lives,” she shares. Fundraising is everything for an NGO. “Without it we will not be able to sustain or survive. We can't provide legal help, housing, food, therapy, clothing, education, or any basic survival needs without funding. Therefore monetary contributions are the main ingredients to allow a non-profit to exist. I would like to thank our committee and all the attendees who took time out of their busy schedules and came to support NMT. A special thanks to all our donors without whom we would not be able to continue working on our mission of saving lives,” she explains. About the response from donors around the docu-series Flight or Fight, she shares, “They have all been positive and it gave our donors a huge insight into my daily life as well as my past which is significantly relevant to why I gave birth to No More Tears. The only drawback was that many fans emailed me asking why they cannot access the docu-series in India.” Many are still unable to believe that even after having a successful career in the industry, Somy left everything behind and dedicated her life to an NGO. “As a survivor of abuse, it makes total sense. There is no point in playing the victim card and by this, I am not saying that if one is abused they should hide it and stay quiet. On the contrary, which is why in Fight or Flight I shared my incidents of abuse quite honestly and at a high cost, but it was worth it to me. It helped me feel better about myself while no one from Bollywood communicates with me because of the truth I shared. They would rather hold on to their friendship with a superstar than care about who he truly is and how many women he has hurt. It does not bother me as I do not want anything from that industry anyway given we speak different languages now and we are both in very different bubbles. Personally, I would much rather do something productive thus No More Tears was the most logical path for me to pursue,” she explains. #Somy Ali Related Articles Advertisment Latest Stories Read the Next Article
