Sona Mohapatra’s Shut Up Sona Goes International, Earns An Official Selection At The Rotterdam International Film Festival

Don’t worry this is not about Sonaptra telling Anu Mallik to shut up in the MeeToo allegation against him but about the fact that after her docu-drama, “Shut Up Sona”, triggered a significant buzz & discussion since its premiere at MAMI & having won an award for gender sensitivity, the muse Sona Mohapatra has another reason to celebrate. The feature-length film will have its international premiere at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam, which is among the top 5 film festivals in the world. The documentary elucidates her journey as a rock star, her brand of music, love for her country’s roots & culture and how she has become a symbol of hope of a larger movement. Directed by Deepti Gupta, "Shut Up Sona", is a closely observed telling of Sona's uncomfortable relationship with her beloved country. "Our film is irreverently brave and unapologetically takes on structural misogyny of the industry and society I belong to. This is a film about music, art, social change & a clashing of the ancient & the modern, every civilization needs to go through these clashes to evolve & become a better place. That is also made everyone laugh during the screenings we’ve had here is an added bonus. I am elated about the film's international premiere. The start of 2020 has been crackling I must add!” said Sona.She further added, "The selection at Rotterdam has made me believe that good stories will always find a way.
