Yukti Kapoor (Karishma in Sony SAB’s Maddam Sir)

I live alone in Mumbai so on Diwali, I usually go to meet my close friends and wear new clothes- preferably Indian wear. This year however, I am travelling to my hometown Jaipur to celebrate Diwali with my family. Also, this year is special because my brother, who stays in Lithuania, has come back and the entire family will be celebrating Diwali together after three years. There will be a lovely family get together and I can’t wait to celebrate this Diwali with my family. I am planning to wear a saree this time, and I have already purchased one.

I want to urge everyone to please be safe, avoid crackers and try being with your family if you can.

My Diwali is usually a celebration at home with family and maybe just a couple of friends. I don’t go out much on Diwali. This year as well, it is going to be similar because we need to stay safe and indoors. Apart from that, there will definitely be a lot of eating on Diwali like always.

I don’t plan to dress up a lot this year because there won’t be any socializing. I have a few clothes that I haven’t worn, which I will be utilizing this year. I decorate my house beautifully every year for Diwali, but this time due to a tight shoot schedule, I didn’t have the opportunity to do much. So, I will light up a lot of Diyas on Diwali and celebrate it in a sober manner.

This Diwali is extremely different from how we usually celebrate this festival. Festivals are an opportunity to meet family and friends that you usually don’t get to meet, go out with them and eat good food together. I prefer celebrating Diwali with a lot of excitement by having a family get together, going to people’s places, playing cards together, etc. However, this year we will have to keep a control on all these activities and instead celebrate Diwali at home with the family.

We might all get together via video calls to wish each other. There are definitely going to be delicious dishes and sweets prepared at home, like every year.

I look forward to celebrating Diwali every year as it is my favourite festival. This festival always gives me a very positive and fresh vibe. I start preparing for Diwali way in advance and I had already decided what I am going to wear this year, long back. This year, I am celebrating Diwali at my hometown, Lucknow, with my family and I am most excited for that. For me, Diwali is always about getting all dressed up and revamping my house as that is what I enjoy the most.

I personally do not burst crackers and that is my request to everyone. I wish everyone a happy Diwali and I hope that this festival fills everyone’s life with positivity.

“Diwali at my place is quite traditional where we do Lakshmi Pooja. We shop for our Diwali outfits weeks in advance to be at our traditional best on this special occasion. We have already started our Diwali cleaning at home. This is one of my favourite festivals and I love how beautiful the city looks during this day. The highlight for me is when we get to meet our friends and family, and we all come together to celebrate. This year due to the ongoing situation, my family and I won’t be stepping out to celebrate. However, We plan to bring equal excitement home by decking up the house and ensuring we do all our rituals as a family and connect with our loved ones virtually.”

“I have been fortunate to have got a chance to celebrate Diwali in advance with my lovely cast of Tera Yaar Hoon Main, the fans will soon witness the same in the upcoming episodes. It was so refreshing to get the feel of Diwali on the set. We all donned special look for the celebration and I am sure our viewers will enjoy it. The only message for my fans and viewers of Tera Yaar Hoon Main is that everyone should safely celebrate this day and spread love and happiness.”
