Soumya bags the title of ‘Soumya Da’ & his first Bollywood song on Indian Idol 10 !

The young lad from Kolkata - Soumya had almost decided to give up on his dream of becoming a singer before he decided to give it a last try with Indian Idol 10. Recently named as a classical Rockstar of the nation, he has been raising the bar of entertainment quotient on Indian idol with his marvelous performances. While the judges are convinced that he is for sure going to have a long journey with the show, the Bong boy has added another feather to his cap. Anil Kapoor who was present on the sets recently to promote his upcoming movie Fanney Khan along with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rajkumar Rao was stunned after watching Soumya perform.

Soumya Chakrabortty who is a trained classical singer set the stage on fire with his impeccable rendition of “Albela Sajan Aayo Re” which scored a standing ovation from all the three judges – Anu Malik, Neha Kakkar and Vishal Dadlani. The star-cast of Fanney Khan was stupefied after witnessing the marvelous performance and couldn’t stop praising the young contestant for his singing abilities. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan also said that Soumya is the one who enjoys classical music and in a way is showing today’s generation how to celebrate it. At this juncture, Anil Kapoor conferred him with the respectful title of “Soumya Da” and the upcoming singer was left speechless. The surprises didn’t get over, Anu Malik who is known to give deserving candidates a break in the music industry, promised Soumya that he will definitely sing for a musical composition done by him.

Sharing his views on the same Anil Kapoor mentioned, “What else can I call you other than ‘Soumya Da’ after such a fantastic performance! Similar to the way Kishore Kumar and RD Burman ji were respectfully called Kishore Da and Pancham Da, you should be known as ‘Soumya Da’.  Such a magnificent performance, that its totally unbelievable.”

 An overwhelmed Soumya Chakrabortty said, “It’s a dream come true for me to be on the stage of Indian Idol with the other Top 13 contestants. I have been learning music from my childhood days and a lot of effort and dedication along with the blessings of my family and well-wishers has helped me to realize this dream. I was spellbound when Anil Sir called me as Soumya Da. Anil Sir is a living legend and when a person of that stature appreciates you, it’s a humbling moment. I am indebted to Anu Sir for offering me the wonderful opportunity to sing for him. It’s my constant endeavor to deliver my best performance. I will remember this day for the rest of my life.”
