SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING DIRECTOR JON WATTS TO RETURN FOR SEQUEL

SPIDER-MAN™: HOMECOMING

After being a massive hit on the box office, speculations have been rife that Jon Watts will be directing the sequel of Spider-Man: Homecoming. The Hollywood Reporter has now confirmed this news; Marvel Studios and Sony have roped in the director for the sequel that is scheduled for release in July 2019.

The news comes as no surprise as the Cop Car director has already delivered a critically acclaimed reboot that also has mass appeal and has managed to gross close to half-a-million at the box office already. With the opening of $117 million, Spider-Man: Homecoming became the second biggest opening for Sony after Spiderman 3 in 2007. So, it's safe to assume that Sony and Marvel will hold the collaboration for a little longer.

Tom Holland, of course, will crawl once again as the web-slinger in the next instalment. Spider Man will appear next in Avengers: Infinity War, expectedly the most promising flick from Marvel Studios. The movie will hit the screens on May 4 next year. The events of Homecoming 2 are most likely to take place after this historic team up.
