Subhash Ghai, Founder, and Chairman of Whistling Woods International (WWI), has been chosen to be a part of the prestigious steering committee of the 50th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Scheduled to be held in Goa from November 20-28, 2019 the event will also serve as a celebration of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary. The steering committee plays an integral role in the organization and running of the festival, and serves to ensure that the necessary coordination between key stakeholders takes place in a timely and professional manner.

Subhash Ghai, who was also nominated to the committee in 2018, will be joined by a number of prominent personalities from across the nation’s media and the entertainment industry, including renowned filmmaker and television personality, Karan Johar, acclaimed producer, Siddharth Roy Kapur, and theatre director and playwright, Feroz Abbas Khan. The international stature of the festival will also be highlighted by the presence of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) President, John Bailey, who will be in attendance as a special guest.

Commenting on his appointment, Subhash Ghai said, “Reaching a golden jubilee is no small feat, and this fantastic film festival deserves to be celebrated with pomp and grandeur. To that end, I would be happy to join my colleagues in contributing our expertise as part of the steering committee of IFFI 2019.”

IFFI is one of Asia’s longest-running and well-renowned film festivals. Initially started in 1952, the festival aims to provide a common platform for the cinemas of the world to project the excellence of the art of filmmaking, contribute to the understanding and appreciation of film cultures of different nations in the context of their social and cultural ethos, and promote friendship and cooperation among people of the world. IFFI is jointly organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Directorate of Film Festivals, and the Government of Goa.
