Professionally, she works well. But the person she is, she’s far more layered and interesting. Apart from this, more is added to her character.

There is a strange and weird parallel in what she is doing and who she is being? After watching the film you will understand how all these things interlink.

What is that one thing in the script that attracts you to say ‘yes’ to any role?

Reading Vishal jee’s every script I feel it’s been written for me.I hope he will always write a script keeping me in mind.Let any other actor perform in case…but I will always feel it has been written for me.

What is the process of choosing a film?

Actually, for me script should have relevance for doing it, also what is she doing? How does she fit into the story? Who is the director? Is the character liked by me? Factors change; at times you want to work with a particular actor/director.

But the role is so different which you may have never done before. So, in such roles, you feel you must do it. You also feel it will help you grow as an actor.

Would Tabu give any tips for a first time actor working with Vishal Bhardawaj?

I would like to give only one tip, come with correct diction in Urdu language.

You don multiple hats to perfection while making a film-direction, music even the adaptation has to be perfect? Do you like to be spontaneous?

I think, to be spontaneous you have to prepare a lot. The meaning of spontaneity changes, when Tabu and Naseer Bhai when they perform that preparation we do is left behind, as their performance is magical.

Basic home work for me is important. We have changed many scenes on the sets. In every film nothing is perfect, every day you face certain problems so it’s like being tested on an everyday basis.

In this film also we had to change character in-between the shots. So I think the meaning of spontaneity is like you can come prepared and make an effort to be spontaneous. Sometimes trying to be spontaneous you will make the wrong decision. You will go back and realise I had not thought about this?

Will we see you acting at any point of time?

I am a very bad actor. My laughter freezes in front of the camera. I am a stupid person while facing the cameras. I am edgy and witty behind the cameras.

‘Khufiya’ is a spy thriller based on the espionage novel,” Escape to Nowhere. The interesting character Krishna Mehra is played by none other than the most exuberant performer.

Tabu is an operative at the Research & Analysis wing. She tracks down the mole selling India’s defence secrets. Tabu will be seen handling the dual personality of being a lover and a spy.
