Every year over 5lakh Indians lose their lives waiting for an organ. To take a progressive step towards addressing this concern, teams across Fortis Hospitals, Mumbai, organized the ‘More to Give’ walkathon today; this is a part of the national initiative aimed at increasing awareness about Organ Donation. Currently in its third edition, the walkathon was flagged off by Tennis ace Kyra Shroff and Ghazal singer Talat Aziz along with the medical and non-medical teams from Fortis Hospitals, Mumbai. publive-image

The 3.2km walkathon which commenced and concluded at Fortis Hospital, Mulund, witnessed over 1000 participants, garnering over 800 Organ Donation pledges. Aimed at starting a dialogue with the common man about the cause of Organ Donation, the initiative witnessed participation from Jyeshtha Shreshtha & Friends of Fortis (groups), along with disabled individuals from Jagruti Sanstha. To connect with those who couldn’t attend the walk; Fortis Hospital also hosted a ‘Virtual Walkathon’ which garnered over 1605316 Organ Donation steps pledged. The initiative was supported by Dr S. Narayani, Zonal Dir., Fortis Hospital, Mulund, Sandeep Guduru, Facility Dir., Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi-A Fortis Network Hospital, Dr Hiren Ambegaokar, CEO, SL Raheja Hospital, Mahim-A Fortis Associate & Dr Supriya Amey, Facility Dir. Dr S. Narayani, Zonal Director, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, said, “The ‘More to Give’ initiative has helped us garner 800 pledges in the West alone, and the numbers are rapidly growing. Our hospitals in Mumbai have successfully conducted Heart, Liver, Kidney and Corneal transplants over the past years, these milestone surgeries wouldn’t have been possible without the support from donor families. With continued efforts, we hope to see the more and more people joining in this cause that could transform the lives of wait-listed patients”.publive-image
