In 1954, when the country's highest honor "Bharat Ratna" was announced by the first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the aim was to honor a particular person for his high contribution in a particular field without caste, discrimination, gender, or enmity. Their field of work may be art, science, politics, music, social service, sports, or whatever, special work the person has done. Singer MS Subbulakshmi was the first person associated with the art world to receive the honor for her work in Carnatic music.
Names of 48 people are included among the personalities who have been awarded the country's highest civilian honor "Bharat Ratna". Among the names associated with cinema, voice actress Lata Mangeshkar received this honor in 2001 and the previous Bharat Ratna award was given to Late. Bhupen Hazarika (for Assamese Music) has been awarded posthumously. In the sports world, Sachin Tendulkar became the youngest person to be awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2014. It is surprising that no one paid attention to the megastar of the century, Amitabh Bachchan, till he turned 81 (born on 11 December 1942)!!
The last 'Bharat Ratna' award was given in 2019 when the names of the honored personalities were given this honor to Nanaji Deshmukh and Bhupen Hazarika (posthumously) from social life and Pranab Mukherjee from politics. At that time, there was a murmur from Bollywood as to why Amitabh Bachchan was not given this honor. Now, when the list of awards received by senior Bachchan on his 81st birthday is being scrutinized, the list of awards has become bigger than his age.
He has received Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan in all three categories of the country's second-highest civilian honor "Padma". He has received the National Award three times, the Filmfare Award 12 times (most), Life Time Award many times, a Doctorate degree from different universities 5 times, and many honors from foreign countries. People believe that Amitabh is not honored with any honor, but honor is bestowed upon Amitabh.
Everyone on the list of honors is respected. There is no voting or any other provision on who should be given this honor. The Prime Minister makes recommendations to the President. 'Bharat Ratna' is not given to more than 3 people in a year and there is no rule that it should be given every year. "Bharat Ratna" is written in Devanagari language in golden luster on a copper plate. There is no formality of giving any money along with this best civilian honor of the country. Of course, it is an honor for service. As far as Amitabh Bachchan is concerned, he is the only gem of cinema who has also been honored with the title of Megastar of the Century. It is said - that Amitabh is counted from one to a hundred, no one is ahead and no one is behind. There is only one gem missing in the crown on his forehead 'Bharat Ratna'!! 'Mayapuri' appeals that this Alexander of cinema should be honored with the title of "Bharat Ratna" (even if the rules have to be changed).
Congratulations to the megastar on his 81st birthday!!!
