New Update

The sword of social media is tightening around the neck of children and Indian parents are unaware of it.

Have you ever thought that the Internet, which has emerged as a lifeline for our future, is behind our backs like a sharp sword on the throats of our children? We Indians are not worried about this issue because we are not aware of the harm. But in developed countries like America and Japan, research has started on this issue. People are seriously considering whether to get entangled in the net or the web. How to protect children from it?

A report by the Gallup and Walton Family Foundation is shocking, saying, "Children between the ages of 9 and 17 are on a razor's edge. Children of this age feel isolated and are becoming dangerous due to this reason. Yes. They don't answer directly to parents these days." Imagine, if the impact of the Internet is like this, are we Indians alert about this? Not at all. Rather, we pat ourselves on the back that our little child is becoming smart!

Understanding 'Gen J': Childhood and Internet-Related Stress

Many reports have revealed that from 1997 to 2012, children are living in a more prosperous environment but they are surrounded by stress and depression. These are the children who spend time on the net. Everyone has given the name 'Gen J' to children of this age. These children have started living for themselves and in their own world. In India, we remain silent by calling it a 'momentary impulse of stress or depression' and do not even try to think about how this impulse or tendency of depression is being transmitted to the child.

Impact of Internet on Children: Insights from Surveys

Let's look at some more reports that have happened on the internet and children. When 11697 parents were talked to, these changes were seen in the nature of their children. Children are 10% more social, 22% depressed, 39% aggressive, 37% impatient, 25% hyperactive, 27% lethargic, and 8% happy. These are mixed figures from many surveys. This includes a survey conducted from 296 districts.

These also include 47% of respondents from A-grade cities, 35% from B-grade cities, and 18% from small cities. Recently, the Karnataka High Court has also said that just as there is an age limit for drinking alcohol, similarly there should be an age limit for viewing the internet. WHO's guideline is that children below 1 year of age should be kept away from the screen. For 1 to 2 years of age, to 3 to 4 years of age, 1 hour should be given to use the phone and that has to be more than enough.

"American School's Lawsuit Against Social Media and Its Impact on Childhood

An American school has filed a case in the court against social media this year. Washington Public Schools alleges that children addicted to social media do not study. Tech companies are guilty of making them addicted. Tech companies are providing harmful material due to which children are being exploited. It has been said in the report that children of 3 to 17 years of age are accessing the internet. About 97% of people have accepted this. Abundance reports believe that social media is making childhood sick. The main ones in this are games (Minecraft, pubG, Fort Knight, Among Us, and FIF A), social media (YouTube, Prime Video, Netflix, Hotstar), etc.

Prioritizing Childhood and Internet Challenges in India

A lot of work is being done on 'Childhood and Net' in foreign countries, in such a situation it is necessary that the IB Ministry of the Government of India pays attention to this. Minister Anurag Thakur is a minister who thinks deeply about these things. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji's dream is that by 2047, India will be a leader in space and will be ranked high in the world. How will this be possible if today's children, who are tomorrow's youth, will remain surrounded by the whirlpool of the net?

Childhood and Net

The meaning is that there is a need to pay attention to children from time to time. Not only the government but also the parents should pay attention to what the child is seeing on the phone and the internet. Notice their behavior and listen with full empathy, paying attention to their anger, excitement, or sadness. The age group of 3 to 17 years is like a raw pitcher, at this age do not let them get trapped in the ill effects of the internet. Bind them with love otherwise, the sword of the internet is around their neck.
