At that time the 8th avatar of Lord Vishnu came to the earth to end the bad in the form of Shri Krishna and got mankind rid of the mass evils,” she explains the meaning of the festival.

She continues, “This festival is celebrated mainly by Hindus and Vaishnavas by fasting, preparing special food, playing cards and visiting temples of Lord Krishna.

In places like Mathura, which is said to be Lord Krishna’s birthplace, there is usually a huge song and dance festival that happens on this day.”

Amiben adds that our Hindu culture is tied with seasons and we have festivals marking each season.

And, the fall/winter season is marked by the arrival of Lord Ganesha, navratri and the year ends with Diwali.

Addressing everyone, she says, “This Janmashtami my request to every individual is to adopt Lord Krishna’s virtues of smartness and enjoy every moment of our precious life. Love, live and let live.”
