I know, no I am sure that there are many more books, poems, hymns and songs written about love than God. Man has been trying to find God and has succeeded in his own way, but I don't think man had been able to find love and give the ultimate description of what love is all about. If you ask me, I firmly believe that it is easier to find and know God than it is to find and feel true love. It is man's hopelessness to describe true love that makes him compare love with God, but I feel that true love is greater than god. True love happens here while we are still alive while God is like a distant dream.Ask true lovers who are sincere to their ability to love and they will tell you the truth about love, because no one but true lovers can come up with the truth about love...
That first look....That meeting of four eyes...that beating of two hearts faster than anything fast in life.....That first flicker of two smiles....That trembling of two bodies like they are about to die....That first touch of the fingers which send showers and shivers through every soul and heart beat in two bodies....That longing and yearning to meet as many times as possible....That dying of several deaths when separated....
That cry which tears the night into hundreds of pieces when the lover cries for his or her love to live long and forever....And that endless fear of losing the one who is loved....If all this is not love, I don't know what love is or even what God is.
The poet who I admire with my entire being, Sahir Ludhianvi was the first I read who wrote about how love can actually be seen in the eyes of the lovers and after fifty -five years of loving, I can be a very strong witness to what Sahir said about love and those eyes which never lie or die. Without going into any more rhapsodies about what love is, let me give you some true stories about love scenes in Hindi cinema.....
One has to only see the love scenes between Raj Kapoor and Nargis who had done seventeen films together as lovers and the love scenes and the romantic songs picturised on them and look into their eyes and you will see love celebrating love in their eyes. They were madly in love with each other in real life and that love found expression in the love scenes they did in the films in which they came together.
Dev Anand, a handsome young leading man had fallen in love with Suraiyya who was a senior actress compared to him, but their love knew no barrier of any kind, till her grandmother saw Dev as a Hindu and a struggling actor and came in between the great love story and wrecked it ,but little did the grandmother know the power of true love. Watch any of the scenes and songs between Dev and Suraiyya in the few films they were teamed in and you will experience the joy(anand)of love which lived then, lives now and which will live for all time.
And what can anyone who has known anything or
seen some of the best love scenes Hindi cinema say about the love scenes of Dilip Kumar and Madhubala ? Try looking at their scenes in" Taraana" and look at their eyes closely and you will see all the meanings,
descriptions and explanations of love you will not find in any book on love or any poem on love. And even in a book praising the love of God the story of love between Dilip Kumar and Madhubala has been told umpteen times to be repeated by me here, but I ask you to have a second, third and as many times as possible look at the love scenes between Dilip Kumar and Madhubala in the all -time classic "Mughal-e-Azam ". The two lovers had been separated because of some decisions taken by Madhubala's father, Mr.Ataullah Khan because of which the lover couldn't come together in B.R.Chopra's "Naya Daur "and the matter had ended up landing in court where the lover Dilip Kumar had to give witness against his beloved and her father. Madhubala as is known now was replaced by Vyjayanthimala. But Madhubala had to complete "Mughal-e-Azam "according to the contract she had signed with K.Asif ,the director of "Mughal-e-Azam" .
There were any number of love scenes between the real life lover who had to fall out of love because of circumstances and people in the industry wondered how they would do all the intense love scenes in the film. They had to only wait for the release of the film to see some of the all time great love scenes in any film. It is still so very difficult to imagine how two estranged lovers could believe that they were so gloriously in love and did them in the most adverse circumstances. Just call to mind the scene in which Anarkali is lying in the lap of Salim and how he runs a feather across her beautiful face, with her eyes shut as if she is in a trance or in some other world. I am a no body, but I challenge any of the actors to do a love scene like Dilip Kumar and Madhubala in the classic.
Years later, I saw two actors like Vinod Mehra and Rekha being as intensely in love on screen as they were in real life in a film called "Ghar". In a song, "aajkal paav zameen per nahi padte mere" sung by Lata Mangeshkar ,the heroine (Rekha)says it all and so much more about the happiness true love can bring.
And what can I say about the love scenes between Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha who it is said were in love in real life ? Look at their romantic scenes and songs in films like "Muqaddar Ka Sikandar" , "Mr.Natwarlal "
and finally "Silsila".If you don't see love in their eyes and their body language ,you have not seen anything or you don't know anything about true love. The searching and yearning eyes of Rekha can so very clearly be see at award functions and other shows where they are together but far away from each other. The love story may have come to an end, but the love scenes between them can not be erased from the mind and will stay on as long as true love lasts.
Rishi Kapoor, the great romantic in films did nine films with Neetu Singh and it was after he did five films with her that he realised that he was in love with her (Rishi held the record of working with twenty two actresses) .It was a very different team before they knew they were in love and all the films they did later, they were seen as the epitomes of true and great love.
There may be other love stories which have come alive on screen ,but none of the love stories have been able to capture the spirit and true life of true love.
CAN ANY OF THE ACTORS OF TODAY BRING GLORY TO TRUE LOVE LIKE THESE GREAT LOVERS WHO HAVE NOW REACHED A PLACE BEYOND TIME LIKE LOVE WHICH IS ALSO BEYOND TIME AND EVEN BEYOND GOD ?
HOW A PRETTY LITTLE GIRL'S DREAM CAME TRUE !
Saira Banu was the only daughter of the beautiful star of the forties and fifties, Naseem Banu. Dilip Kumar (Yusuf Khan)was a star who was slowly but surely growing into a living legend. He used to visit Naseem Banu who was a colleague and it was during these meetings that the little Saira saw him and made up her still growing mind that she would marry him and no other man.
Saira was sent abroad for her studies together with her brother,Sultan. It was in London that she saw her first Dilip Kumar film, "Aan"and her love for her dream hero grew stronger.
Saira returned to India and got her first break as a leading lady in "Junglee " when she was still in her teens and became a star with her first film.
She was an actress in great demand and was working with all the leading male stars. Rajendra Kumar was one of them. The two worked in films like "Aayee Milan Ki Bela",
"Jhuk Gaya Aasmaan" and "Aman"and there were stories about their falling in love even though Rajendra Kumar was a married man with three children.
Naseem Banu was very disturbed about the stories and sought the help of her friend,Yusuf. He came to the house of Naseem and saw the young Saira who was overwhelmed to see her dream hero and the meeting was over and her dream hero left....
Dilip Kumar was playing a double role in "Ram Aur Shyam ". Waheeda Rehman was one of the heroines. The makers who were from the South wanted to cast Saira as the second heroine, but Dilip Kumar found her too young to be his heroine and the role went to the upcoming star Mumtaz.
Saira felt hurt and decided to take some kind of sweet revenge on her dream hero. She didn't have to wait long. Naseem and her friend Yusuf were still planning how to "save" Saira from her hero of three films.
Dilip Kumar didn't let either Naseem or Saira know that he had fallen in love with Saira during that meeting with Naseem in her house.
Dilip Kumar who was considered to be the most eligible bachelor in the country with hundreds of girls wanting to marry him ,decided to marry Saira and the two got married in what was called the marriage of the century. Dilip Kumar, the legend was forty four years old and the "beauty queen "Saira was only twenty two.The marriage created a sensation all over and the couple's photograph appeared on the front pages of all the leading dailies the next day .
The dream that little girl had seen had finally come true and how !
