The voice that was rejected is now the voice that is a part of the lives of millions all over the world - Ali Peter John
The voice that people found fault with is now accepted as the voice without any blemish. The voice that was considered to be only good to recite poetry, speak commentaries and speak at public functions and political rallies is now the voice of the life of every kind of emotion, the voice of the people and even the voice of emperors and Shahenshahs, the voice that some powerful people didn't have the time or the inclination to listen to is know called "THE VOICE "and is a voice that the queen of voices, Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar calls "woh awaz jisme rooh hai aur jo hazaaron saal mein ek baar aati hai"and professional singers look up to the voice and wish they had a voice like this voice which belongs to a man who has held millions captive for half a century....
Amitabh Bachchan has once again proved (without making any effort)that his voice is a blessing for man and a glory to God.
I have been listening to his voice in all its varieties ,but I was moved to tears when I heard him sing his version of the song, "Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Haseen Situm ,Tum Rahe Na Tum, Hum Rahe Na Hum "As his tribute to Rishi Kapoor, his friend, relative and co-star of eighteen big films.
In and through the lines of the song, Amitabh conveys what a book or work of art can not.
The way Amitabh sing makes the heart get drunk on the misery and pain of losing, especially losing someone who has been very close and a part of the life of the one who has lost a part of his life.
I have heard and am still hearing people expressing their emotions and feelings about losing Rishi, but there is nothing and there will be nothing to touch the feelings by Amitabh and I am not saying this because I am an admirer of Mr.Bachchan or because I was and will always like to remember that I had one of the best friends in this life in Rishi.
I am saying it only as a human being who has lived all his life with emotions and feelings as my "relatives", "friends" and my only reasons to love this life .
I have heard the tribute of Mr.Bachahan several times in one morning and every time I have choked and tried to hide my tears from my female caretaker and I still love to listen to the tribute again and again because it takes me to another world which is so very far away from this world where emotions and feelings have lost meaning and are even being threatened with extinction.
The words of the tribute are originally the words written as a song by the poet Kaifi Azmi ,composed by S.D.Burman and sung by Geeta Dutt for Guru Dutt's masterpiece, 'Kaagaz Ke Phool ".
The song for those who remember and even for those who don't was picturised on Guru Dutt and Waheeda Rehman with neither of them singing, but the song playing in the background to express the feelings of two lovers whose love has gone wrong because of circumstances and misunderstandings.
But, how wonderfully Amitabh together with the composers are Rohan and Vinayak weave the song into the new situation after more than sixty years,is emotional magic.
I give you the song to let you know why I feel what I feel about the unusual tribute paid by Amitabh.
I have heard that the song was used in the last film starring Amitabh and Rishi, "102 Not Out",but I don't I don't know where or how it was used, I only know that when Amitabh sings it as a tribute to Rishi, it sounds soulful even to a man like me who has still to believe whether man has a soul or not.
Without tormenting my readers with my words, I give you the words of the great poet Kaifi Azmi which have been adapted so well to suit the situation today and to wish Amitabh has added a new meaning and a new life, prove that some poems, even if they are songs in a film are for all times and forever...
Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Haseen Situm
Tum Rahe Na Tum, Hum Rahe Na Hum
Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Haseen Situm
Tum Rahe Na Tum, Hum Rahe Na Hum
Waqt Ne Kiya Kya
Beqaraar Dil Iss Tarah Mile
Jis Tarah Kabhi, Hum Juda Na The
Beqaraar Dil Iss Tarah Mile
Jis Tarah Kabhi, Hum Juda Na The
Tum Bhi Kho Gaye, Hum Bhi Kho Gaye
Ek Raah Par Chal Ke Do Qadam
Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Haseen Situm
Tum Rahe Na Tum, Hum Rahe Na Hum
Waqt Ne Kiya...
Jaayenge Kahan, Soojhta Nahin
Chal Pade Magar Raasta Nahin
Jaayenge Kahan, Soojhta Nahin
Chal Pade Magar Raasta Nahin
Kya Talaash Hai, Kuchh Pata Nahin
Bun Rahe Hain Din, Khwaab Dum-B-Dum
Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Haseen Situm
Tum Rahe Na Tum, Hum Rahe Na Hum
Waqt Ne Kiya
These words best describe what Amitabh must have felt when he realised the part Rishi had palyed in his life and why he is missing him so much.
Incidentally,Amitabh and Rishi shot to fame at the same time in 1973 ,Rishi with "Bobby"and Amitabh with "Zanjeer ".
There was talk about their having some misunderstandings and they had not been on talking terms for some years, but the two became very good friends when they started working together and then went on to work in eighteen films and had formed a mutual admiration society.
Raj Kapoor wanted to work with Amitabh and Amitabh was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the Showman who he always wanted to work with, but things didn't work out.
Amitabh and Randhir Kapoor worked together in films like "Kasme Vaade"and "Pukaar",both directed by their common friend,Ramesh Behl, who had earlier directed Randhir and Jaya Bhaduri in "Jawaani Diwaani ".
Years later,Amitabh's daughter Shweta married Nikhil, the son of Rishis elder sister Ritu Nanda and Rajan Nanda .The two families still have a very strong and emotional bond...
Some relationships are born. They can not be made or manufactured like they are increasingly growing into in these cruelly changing times .
