Akshaya Tritiya: 3 Tradition Origin Stories on 'Laxmi Narayan'

As the auspicious festival of Akshaya Tritiya draws near, COLORS invites you to embark on a captivating journey with its mythological saga 'Laxmi Narayan Sukh Samaarthya Santo0lan' delving into the realms of Hindu mythology to uncover the hidden treasures of this sacred day. Tracing the divine journey of the universe’s ideal couple, the show unveils three intriguing stories that shed light on the lesser-known traditions intertwined with the auspiciousness of Akshaya Tritiya.

Laxmi Ki Janm Gaatha

According to Hindu mythology, Akshaya Tritiya marks the day of the annual re-appearance of Lord Vishnu's preserver form, Narayan, along with his consort, Laxmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. In the celestial event known as the 'Samudra Manthan' or churning of the cosmic ocean, various divine beings, including gods and demons, churned the ocean to extract the nectar of immortality (amrita). As the churning progressed, numerous auspicious entities emerged from the depths of the ocean, one of which was the goddess, Laxmi. 

Laxmi Ki Paheli Bhent

Not many know about Laxmi's first 'aarti', a ceremonial offering of light, incense, and prayers. Lord Vishnu, recognizing the significance of Laxmi's presence and her role in bestowing wealth and prosperity upon the universe, initiates the tradition of offering 'aarti' to her on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. Using the sacred 'Akshaya' pot filled with holy water and unbroken rice grains, Lord Vishnu performs the inaugural 'aarti', signifying devotion and gratitude towards the goddess of wealth.

The Eternal Kalpa-Vriksha

The Kalpa-Vriksha, also known as the wish-fulfilling divine tree, is a legendary symbol in Hindu mythology representing abundance, fulfillment, and prosperity. According to the 'Laxmi Narayan' saga, the Kalpa-Vriksha is believed to have originated from the cosmic ocean during the Samudra Manthan. On Akshaya Tritiya, devotees venerate the Kalpa-Vriksha, seeking blessings for prosperity and fulfillment of desires. The show explores the importance of this divine tree and the rituals associated with its worship.
