The renowned flimmaker Dr. V Shantaram was planning to make a Hindi flim called "DO AANKHEN BAARAH HAATH and he wanted to cast Dilip Kumar in the main role of a jailor who takes on the challenge of reforming twelve dangerous criminals.

Dilip Kumar was interested in playing the role , but he backed out at the last minute and Dr. Shantaram who was a legend and a studio owner felt insulted when Dilip did not show interest in during his flim ,he decided to play the role of the jailor himself. And the rest his history. The flim became a classic and a major hit .

Years later , Subhash Ghai decided to make his own version of "Do Aankhen Baara Haath "and made 'Karma' with an ageing Dilip Kumar as the jailor and actors like Anil Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah ,Jackie Shroff and others as the modern day criminals.

And 'Karma' too was a big hit and gave Dilip Kumar a new lease of life as an actor which he made the best use of till his last film 'Qila'

Guru Dutt ( today , July 9 is his birth anniversary) was planning to make a flim based on "Talkhiyaan" , a collection of hard-hitting poems written by Sahir Ludhianvi.

Guru Dutt wanted to direct the flim with Dilip Kumar playing the role of a poet, Vijay . There were some problems and it is said that when Dilip Kumar did not attend the muhurat of the flim , Guru dutt decided to play the role of the poet and he made the flim with the title Pyaasa " .

And the subject of the flim together with the great songs made 'Pyaasa ' not only a hit but one of the most well-known flims made in india.

Yash Chopra was to make a flim with Dilip Kumar who he had worked with in "Mashaal " and was an assistant to his brother Dr. B.R Chopra when he made 'Naya Daur' .

Dilip Kumar he was a very good friend of Yash did not want to do the flim . And the role went to Anupam Kher . The flim was a flop, but it made a big difference to Anupam Kher.

In the 80 a flim called "SHANKARABHARANAM" was made with a character actor called S. V. Somyajulu and a female junior artist .

The flim broke all records and won several awards. Producer N N Sippy wanted to remake the flim in Hindi.

Dilip kumar was the first to be approached to play the lead role , but after several meetings, he declined the role .

Sanjeev Kumar was the next choice, but he too had his own problems and finally the flim was made with Girish Karnad and Jaya Prada. Dilip Kumar had no regrets when he saw the flim of the premiere.

The Hindi version was an utter flop even though Laxmikant - Pyarelal had put their souls , hearts and minds to score the music .
