Apparently disillusioned with the way murky developments took place and the infighting within her political party , senior Bollywood actress-danseuse  Urmila Matondkar ( of ‘Rangeela’ , ‘Satya’ and ‘Bhoot’ movies fame ) has formally ‘resigned’ from the Congress party. Which had given her an election ticket to contest for the recent Lok Sabha elections against a formidable seasoned BJP opponent Gopal Shetty.  The outspoken  Urmila who ( as expected) lost the elections, in a latest formal letter  , while expressing her thanks for the candidature opportunity, says, "I have resigned from the Indian National Congress. The first thought of resignation came to me after my repeated efforts , no action was taken on my confidential letter dated 16th May 2019, addressed to Mr Milind Deora. The confidential contents of my letter were leaked out to the media, which was an act of blatant betrayal. None from the party was apologetic or even concerned towards me, “ Urmila has groused justifying her resignation. She also stated that she stands by all my her thoughts and ideologies and  “will ‘continue’ to work for people to the best of my capacity with honesty and dignity”. Meanwhile  strong rumours are afloat that rival political parties are on the verge of sending feelers to the feisty popular Urmila induct her into their party canvassing or contesting ahead of the assembly elections which are due in the coming months. An altruist by nature, Urmila has always discreetly resorted to social-work and welfare activities for both citizens-in-distress and pets-animals.. This senior film correspondent has seen the talented Matondkar  regularly performing-on-stage since possibly over past 15 years, devoting time for  the Mumbai police force at their annual Umang entertainment fund-raising live shows for police-welfare.
