Capturing the essence of a global traveller, who is on a journey to attain eternal bliss, “REISIGER” by Sonal Verma for ‘Rara Avis’, at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2019, was a stunning fashion offering.
Spectacularly marrying the mystic elements of Africa, with cultural bindings, the collection spoke of opulence. Resonating the brand’s ethos, were a range of ensembles, influenced by the ‘Wunderkammer’.
With creativity being of prime importance, a mélange of patterns visualised were symbolic of many languages. Experimenting with handmade laces and raffia, the underlying motive was to explore the rich artisanal craftsmanship.
Handloom fabrics, like brushed cotton and cotton silk from all across India, were used to create a fashion fantasy. The indigenous finishing techniques were well-altered, along with detailing. To add glamour to the embellishments, the designer primarily worked with leather and raffia.
Contemporary patterns were blended with traditional techniques to create a treasure trove of designs, while the accessories, which are Sonal’s specialty, played a quintessential role. The models sashayed on the ramp, in hues of tonal neutrals, like washed coral, camel, sand and safari greens. Perfectly blending the lively silhouettes, were hints of red and sky blue that set the mood right.
Striking on the ramp was a white ‘A’ line maxi with quaint motifs quite ideal for summer wear, but the tiered mid-brown maxi, with lattice yoke and tassels had a fun element about it. For more summer excitement, Sonal offered capris with pleated hemlines, floppy jackets and dresses edged with white tassels on the hem.
Wearing a sparkling, sequined mini skirt and mustard satin shirt singer, anchor, model and actress, Shibani Dandekar strutted down the ramp with pretty fragile necklaces.
Women who want to emerge as stars, “REISIGER” by Sonal Verma, for her label ‘Rara Avis’, had the right offerings.
SAAKSHA AND KINNI UNLEASHED AN AMAZING MULTI PRINT STORY AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK SUMMER/RESORT 2019

Rupam Singhal of Orra and Shazia Motiwala of A.S. Motiwala
Known for their printed stories, the designing pair Saaksha Bhat and Kinnari Kamat for their label ‘Saaksha and Kinni’ unleashed another multi-coloured, multi-printed collection called, “Nomada” at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2019.
The soft sheer fabrics like cotton silks and organza were the apt choice for the ensembles but it was the colour palette that created a stir in the audience. From deep shades of red, brown, magenta and black, the hues moved to bright red, saffron, burgundy, pink, mustard, blue, mid-grey and navy.
Once again, the beauty of Gujarat and Rajasthan digital prints like abstract florals, were lavishly visible in the collection along with lots of micro pleating. At times, the prints were a mix of geometrics, florals, abstracts and splashes of colours.
There was a mix of masculine and feminine silhouettes. Cool, fluid pants, strapless dresses, sheer shells, long flowing coats, tunics, jumpsuits, maxis, layered trios of pants, blouse and jacket, all indicated a major mix and match story that will thrill the adventurous dressers, who want to experiment with tiered sartorial options.
Clever, but unusual combos were merged into a single outfit when it came to prints. A floral panel suddenly fitted into a black/white checked tunic and pant. A transparent geometric print kaftan worn over a maillot was reserved for the beach. Cute yoked smock blouses, strappy cocktail dresses; drawstring maxis and cropped trousers gave further style options. Detailing came with a hint of quilting for cool summer eveningwear.
The glamorous Bollywood beauty, Pooja Hegde looked gorgeous in a black/white, sheer, checked, long-sleeved mini with an impressive matching checked jacket, lined in a striking print.
When the buyers have an intense fascination for prints, then the “Nomada” collection by Saaksha and Kinni label will be the perfect choice for the coming season.
Lakmé Official Makeup expert at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer Resort 2019, Mariana created bold red matte eyes with colour on the lids with lots of mascara on the lashes. She chose a peach matte for lips from the new Lakmé Absolute Matte Ultimate collection.
VERANDAH BY ANJALI PATEL MEHTA PRESENTED VACATION READY WARDROBE SOLUTIONS AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK SUMMER/RESORT 2019

Resort and holiday wear expert Anjali Patel Mehta for her label, ‘Verandah’ unveiled the “Jahanara” collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2019. Inspired by the life of the beautiful Mughal princess, Jahanara Begum, the colours for the ensembles reflected the tone of the theme.
The ‘Verandah’ collection opened with Bollywood beauty Urvashi Rautela who glided in a white maxi, with a multi-coloured mid-length jacket.
To the background music provided by child tabla-playing prodigy 15-year-old Keshava, the creations accessorised by the delicate jewellery, moved down the ramp.
As the collection moved from light to shadow, the whites, transcended to yellow, fuchsia, emerald and royal blue. Reinterpreting antique regal men’s and women’s costumes, Anjali gave a modern twist to the vacation-ready separates.
The luxurious Choga robes, Aligarhi pants, Achkan jackets and Angarkha kurtas, were splashed with Anjali’s signature prints inspired by the Mughal era. Creating a medley of motifs, there was the royal dagger, horse, throne, minarets, lotus, Mughal Garden and broken hearts that were seen in vibrant hues on super soft cotton and silk.
While the smocked and hand beaded crystal belts were great accessories, the up-cycled denim for jackets and detailed hand embroidered designs on statement separates, upped the style quotient of the collection. The interpretation of the Parchin Kari inlay work from the walls of the Taj Mahal, was visible in the embroidered motifs.
The striking printed and jewelled line of multi-hued dresses, sun-downer maxis, statement jackets and exciting resort coordinates with beads, as well as Anjali’s signature tassels; were a deliciously decadent but stylishly fashion forward look at holiday wear.
When it comes to ultra-glamorous jewelled resort and destination clothes, the “Jahanara” collection by Anjali Patel Mehta for her ‘Verandah’ label will turn a beachcomber into a Royal Princess.
