It was the night of August 2 , 1982 . Amitabh Bachchan was lying in bed on the first floor of Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai .... The doctors , Farokh Udwadia , Jaiyant Barwe and Shah had given up hope for Amitabh and had declared him " clinically dead " and had gone home - Ali Peter John

They had asked Yash Johar , Manmohan Desai and Prakash Mehra to make preparations for his last journey the next day .....

Jaya Bachchan who was close to Amitabh's bed did not wait for a second after the doctors left . She took to the road and walked bare feet right up to the Siddivinayak Temple in Prabhadevi . She had a miraculous darshan and returned walking and when she reached the room where Amitabh was lying like a dead man....

She had cried enough for two long months and couldn't cry now . Her eyes suddenly fell on Amitabh's left foot and she saw one of his toes moving and she screamed , " how can he die ? His toe is moving "

And all the three doctors who had given up on Amitabh rushed back to his room and fought a new battle to save him . They were fighting against hope , but Jaya still had all the hope that her "Amit " would come back to life .

Dr Udwadia asked his team to " pump him with cortisone injections " . His team told him that it was too risky but Dr Udwadia asked them to do what he asked them and within thirty minutes Amitabh showed more signs of revival and he was breathing normally soon .....

Was it the prayers of Jaya and the country or the Cortisone injections that saved Amitabh ? That is a question that will perhaps never find a correct answer
