USS RAAT SMITA NE EK SAPNA DEKHA , AUR PHI WOH SO NAHI SAKI

There has not been a night and sometimes even a day when I have not dreamt. I have some dreamt every kind of dream, but there are some dream which I can never forget.

I dreamt about my mother death two days before she died. I had dreamt about the first love of my life leavingly and she left within three months , she went away to become a nun .

I dreamt about a riot taking place in Mumbai and the worst Hindu-Muslim roits started in fifteen days after I had seen that dream . The list of my dream is as long as my life .

The only other person who I knew dreamt some of the most fascinating and frightening dreams was my friend, Smita Patil.

She had dreams to exchange with me every time I met her, and I loved to meet her as many time as possible just because of her simplicity and her knowledge about the realities of life , but I love meeting her most because of her dreams she told me about.

She was doing two shifts a day those days and told me how she couldn't get enough sleep .

And when i met her in July , 1982 , she told me about a scary dream she had seen . It was a dream in which she had seen Amitabh Bachan meeting with a nasty accident.

She told me that her dreams often came true and she asked me if she should talk about the dream to Amitabh , who was shooting for Man Mohan Desai's "Coolie" in Bangalore.

She had worked with Amitabh in flims like "NAMAK HALAAL" and "SHAKTI" and held Amitabh in great respect.

I asked her to call Amitabh and tell him about her dream . She called Amitabh and described her dream to him and asked him to be careful. Amitabh thanked her and forgot all about the dream.

And just two days later, Amitabh met with an accident in which the pointed and sharp edge of a large table struck him in his stomach and that accident almost killed him on August 2nd 1982.

And on December 6th, 1986 Smita who was pregnant fell seriously sick and was rushed to the jaslok hospital, were she died under same night that she was admitted.

It was her own dream ( it was not a dream, it was a nightmare). The government of Maharashtra had given her a State Funeral and thousands of people walked past her body dressed as a just married women .

She had married Raj Babbar who was already married and they had a son who they named Prateik .

Incidentally, Smita had told me once in a hotel called Rajnigandha in Alibag, that she would die when she was 30 years old , and when she died , she was exactly 30.

The flim industry held a condolences meeting for her at Mehboob Studio which was attended by a large crowd of Mourners which showed how much she was loved and respected within a short time.

Amitabh who was shooting out of Mumbai flew down to Mumbai only to be present at the meeting, were he spoke about Smita's dream about his meeting with an accident.
