VETERAN ACTRESS SUMITA SANYAL PASSES AWAY AT 72

Sumita Sanyal has been a hugely popular name in both Bengali and Hindi cinema. In a shocking turn of events, the veteran actress who hadn't been keeping well for quite some time, couldn’t survive a cardiac arrest, which lead to her demise at the age of 72. The late actress will be fondly remembered for her role in Anand opposite Amitabh Bachchan and Mere Apne opposite Vinod Khanna.

Born Manjula Sanyal during the British reign in the Bengal presidency, she was married to a well-known film editor Subodh Roy and is survived by a son. Though she’d been away from the limelight for quite some time now, she will never be forgotten because of the memorable performances she has delivered in her career.

She made her debut with a Bengali film Khokababur Pratyabartan in 1960. She had done over 40 Bengali films which includes Sagina Mahato opposite Dilip Kumar in 1961 and her iconic role in Kuheli alongside Sandhya Roy and Biswajit is one that’s cherished by all cinema lovers. Apart from Anand, she is remembered fondly for her performances in Guddi, Aashirwad and Mere Apne. She also did a lot of theatre and acted in a number of television serials.

Our deepest condolences to Sumita's family and we hope they recover from this terrible loss soon.
