VETERAN FILMMAKER CUM LYRICIST SAWAN KUMAR TAK BATTLING WITH HIS LIFE

My dear friend 86 year old , the director, producer, writer & lyricist of blockbuster hits like 'Sanam Bewafa', 'Souten' and 'Sajan Bina Suhagan' has been admitted to the intensive care unit of the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai - Jyothi Venkatesh

Sawan has had a history of lung-related ailments, but this time he's serious and his heart is not in a good condition. Says his nephew Naveen Kumar Tak in a fervent appeal to his fans, "We are asking the fans and followers for their prayers so that uncle can pull through this difficult time."

The filmmaker who had come to Mumbai after stealing Rs 45 from his house several decades ago with the hope of being a hero is known for giving breaks to acclaimed actors like Sanjeev Kumar and Mehmood Junior aka Naeem Sayyed.

He had produced 'Naunihal' on a shoestring budget, but the film had a Presidential mention at the National Awards and it was the film that introduced Sanjeev Kumar to the world of Hindi movies. His first film as director was 'Gomti Ke Kinare with Meena Kumari'.

It may be noted that his first film as a director was Gomti Ke Kinare in 1972, which also sady turned out to be Meena Kumari's last film.
