“Vidya Balan As Manjulika Was My Inspiration For Laal Ishq”: Shamin Mannan

Shamin Mannan who has dabbled between television commercials and fiction shows, is making her debut entry into the supernatural drama space with &TV’s Laal Ishq. The talented actress who has always believed in experimenting with different roles was quite keen on stepping foot in this genre while having a challenging role in hand. The actress who has often charmed the audience with her innocent and dreamy roles on television in the past will be essaying a character partly possessed by an evil ghost, who is out to take revenge against love. Donning a completely different character, Shamin will be seen essaying the role of Sheena who eventually falls prey to a dangerous ghost whose only motive is to kill all the married and to-be married couples in the village. While Dhruv (Kinshuk Vaidya) attempts to win over Sheena’s heart, little does he realize that the evil spirit within her refuses to let their love flourish.

Attempting a first, Shamin decided to binge watch the psychological thriller movie Bhool Bhulaiyaa to get into the skin and depth of the character. Admired by Vidya Balan’s act, the actress found great inspiration from her to pull off the role. Speaking about playing such a character she said, “Initially I was a little sceptical on playing the role but decided to take up the challenge. Considering it was my first, I decided to observe similar characters and notice their performances.  I couldn’t help but seek inspiration from Vidya Balan’s performance as Manjulika and was quite admired by her effortless manner of essaying the role. She is an actor par excellence and I think every role of hers seems like a standard to be compared against. I think it was her flawless performance that helped me perform confidently and seamlessly in Laal Ishq.”

Leaving the audiences spell bound with their supernatural stories, &TV’s Laal Ishq has always been culling out the best of love stories with a ghostly twist and continues to do so with yet another spine chilling story.
