SC Order on Stray Dogs: Sonakshi Sinha Voices Dissent, Calls Out Insensitivity

Actress Sonakshi Sinha has publicly criticized the Supreme Court's order to relocate stray dogs from Delhi-NCR to shelters, sparking a significant debate on social media

Sonakshi expressed her dissent through an Instagram post, highlighting that stray dogs are victims of neglect and deserve compassion, not displacement

The Supreme Court's decision aims to remove all stray dogs from areas like Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, and Ghaziabad within six to eight weeks for public safety, particularly for children and the elderly

The court's order mandates that caught stray dogs should not be returned to the streets and that shelters with adequate staff and provisions for sterilization and vaccination must be established

Sonakshi argues that sending dogs to overcrowded shelters strips them of their freedom and identity and does not constitute genuine animal welfare

The Supreme Court has emphasized that public safety takes precedence over animal welfare, citing risks posed by stray dog attacks

The court has also introduced measures such as contempt proceedings against those obstructing the implementation of the order and a helpline for immediate action in case of dog bites

Previously, under the Animal Birth Control rule, sterilized dogs were returned to their original locations, which the court now deems ineffective
