When Dilip Kumar met Dr. BhimRao Ambedkar

Dilip kumar was in Aurangabad and was staying in the same hotel where Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was staying with his wife

Dilip kumar was a personal friend of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru with whom he had a very close rapport and it is a known fact that whenever Nehru wanted to discuss something about any of the creative fields and even issues affecting the country as a whole, he consulted Dilip Kumar and at times even the trio of Dilip, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand. The thespian was also a friend of other leaders of different parties and ideologies and they all respected him for his knowledge and his grasp of all the important issues of the time..

He was in Aurangabad and was staying in the same hotel where Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was staying with his wife Savita and some of their close friends. When he heard about Dr. Ambedkar being in the same hotel, he expressed his desire to meet the creator of the constitution to Dr. Ambedkar’s friends.

But Dr. Ambedkar was not willing to take what Dilip Kumar told him

The meeting was arranged and Dr. Ambedkar started the conversation by talking about how the film industry was one where there were men and women who were not “good people and had no morals and values”,and before Dr. Ambedkar could go any further, Dilip Kumar in his inimitable manner told Dr.Ambedkar that he had a wrong picture about the film industry. But Dr. Ambedkar was not willing to take what Dilip Kumar told him about the industry seriously and gave Dilip Kumar a list of cases which had proved to him that the film industry was not a very good place to be in. Dilip kumar is said to have got very angry and walked out of Dr. Ambedkar’s room. And there was silence all around.

Who knows, if this memorable meeting could have ended in a positive way

Dr. Ambedkar’s friends told him that he should not have behaved with Dilip Kumar the way he had because the thespian had come to him to make a hefty donation towards his causes. But Dr. Ambedkar told his friends that he would never change his opinions, decisions and values for money. The matter came to an end without Dilip Kumar being satisfied about his meeting with the dalit leader who was also a highly qualified man with more than a dozen prestigious degrees to his name and as i see it, dr.ambedkar missed an opportunity to know the good side of the film industry. Who knows, if this memorable meeting could have ended in a positive way, it could have done a world of good to country and especially to the film industry?
