The winner of Best Screenplay at the renowned Tribeca Film Festival, Tryst With Destiny is a story about modern-day India that needs to be told on a global scale. Here’s why:

We are still obsessed with fair skin:

Even though we have moved forward when it comes to technology and infrastructure in the urban jungles of the country, we are still fascinated with fair skin.

So ingrained is this aspirational idea, that we automatically associate light-coloured skin tones with social concepts like ‘status’. Tryst With Destiny beautifully captures our love affair with fair skin.

Lower castes still struggle:

While urban India is oblivious to the grass-root reality of casteism, the issue is still very much a part of India’s 21st century ecosystem.

Rural areas, that comprise most of India, are still battling this problem. Perhaps the world’s longest surviving social hierarchy, untouchability and casteism are still prevalent in the hinterlands of India.

Tryst With Destiny brings out this real-world challenge faced by lower castes in India.

We are progressing, but is it worth it at the cost of conservation?

Increasingly so, man’s proximity to nature continues to grow closer even as we cut down natural habitats for the sake of ‘progress’.

Often, we forget that nature has its own defense mechanism that acts up as we encroach upon animal land.

Showcasing the parasitic relationship between man-made development and nature, Tryst With Destiny throws light on the importance of conservation.

Grass-root level corruption:

Sparking a conversation on corruption at the grass-root levels of India, Tryst With Destiny brings to life the evils of greed.

The anthology showcases the life of a cop who has a simple dream but is compelled to resort to unlawful methods to make it come true.

Tryst With Destiny is a fresh story that gives a strong voice to familiar socio-cultural issues that we all talk about in hushed tones.

The mini-series will go live on Sony LIV on 5th November. Directed by Prashant Nair, Tryst With Destiny stars Ashish Vidyarthi, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Ishwak Singh, Lillete Dubey, Victor Banerjee, Vineet Kumar Singh, Kani Kusruti, Jaideep Ahlawat, Palomi Ghosh, Amit Sial and Geetanjali Thapa.

The anthology has been penned by Prashant Nair, Neeraj Pandey and Avani Deshpande.
