Will Kuku Kohli launch the sequel of Ajay Devgn debut-movie ‘Phool Aur Kaante ?

Jiyo hazaaron saal ! April 2nd 2021, marks the 52nd birthday of macho mega-star actor-producer-director Ajay Devgn.

Incidentally this year (2021), also marks the 30th year of Ajay’s super-hit action debut-thriller ‘Phool Aur Kaante’, directed by Kuku Kohli which released in 1991- Chaitanya Padukone

When I spoke to Kuku-jee ( who is happily married to star actress-danseuse Aruna Irani ) he was “delighted to realise” that the musically-hit movie with which Ajay Devgn made his action-packed debut, is now in its 30th year of release.

Reacted Kohli, “ Do you know, I am almost ready with the new-script for making a sequel to ‘Phool Aur Kaante’ (Part-II).

Once the corona-pandemic completely vanishes, I propose to start the shoot. It is but obvious, that my mascot hero Ajay Devgn, whom we fondly call ‘Raju’ will be approached to head the cast of the sequel, whenever it gets made.

We will miss those who are no more, including action-maestro Veeru-jee Devgan , Amrish Puri-saab, Jagdeep-jee this time,” said Kuku, speaking to me on phone just three days ago.

For those who may not be aware, I wish to share that the 25th week ‘silver jubilee celebration party of ‘Phool Aur Kaante’ was held at the poolside Hotel Palmgrove at Juhu.

But the event was hosted not by its producer , but by ‘Suvidha Foundation’ Chairman entrepreneur Mr Shanker Lalwani ( he passed away recently ) who used to be my close family friend.

That’s because the film-producer Dinubhai, seemed not too keen on hosting the silver jubilee celebrations as there were apparently some internal differences and issues.

Since I was in touch with Kuku and we used to meet at Juhu Hotel, he confided in me, that ideally there should have been a 25th week celebration for Phool Aur Kaante.

That’s when I mentioned this sad situation to Mr. Lalwani and he promised to help out, since he was close to the senior management of Hotel Palm Grove.

Finally the celebrations took place in May 1992. It was such a delight to see Ajay personally come with his family which included his Dad--acclaimed action-choreographer Veeru Devgan, ( also actor-producer-director), who had then conceived the iconic opening action-stunt screen-entry of Ajay astride with both his legs apart, balancing precariously on two parallel two-wheelers in steady motion.

Once could see Veeru-jee and Kuku-jee being emotionally overwhelmed at that same event, after they were felicitated .

Also present at the event was the film PRO (‘late’) Mr R R Pathak and some celeb-artistes from the movie-cast.

As a token-gesture of appreciation, Ajay presented me with a bouquet of flowers, for my enterprising initiative.

That same year 1992, the crowning glory was, when Ajay Devgn won the Filmfare Award trophy for ‘Best Male Debut’ for his amazing dramatic, emotional and breath-taking action performance-scenes in ‘Phool Aur Kaante’.

Which I recall was presented to him on stage by legendary actor Dharmendra, amidst thunderous applause.
