Yash Chopra wanted to become an engineer

- Yash Chopra was born in Lahore on 27 September 1932. He studied in Lahore. In 1945, his family settled in Ludhiana, Punjab. Yash Chopra came to Mumbai with the desire to become an engineer. But fate had something else in store.

Yash Chopra's elder brother BR Chopra was also a well-known producer-director of Bollywood. Yash ji worked as a co-director with his brother in the beginning of his career. He worked in films like 'Naya Daur', 'Ek Hi Raasta' and 'Sadhana'.

 

Brought stardom to many stars

- As a director, Yash ji made his first film 'Dhool Ka Phool' in the year 1959. Made Dharamputra in 1961 and multi-starrer film 'Waqt' in 1965. He directed 22 films and produced 51 films.

- In 1973, he founded the production company Yash Raj Films. During the days of struggle, many artists had refused to take wages from him, but Yash Chopra paid them the full amount. Yash Chopra gave stardom status to many stars through his films.

 

Yash Chopra was the magician of romantic films

- In 1975, with the film 'Deewar', he expanded the image of megastar Amitabh Bachchan as 'Angry Young Man'. Yash Chopra is called the magician of romantic films. Yash Chopra's elder son Aditya Chopra is also a director. Yash Chopra's younger son Uday Chopra is a Bollywood actor. He has acted in many films.

- The five films with Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role - Deewaar (1975), Kabhi Kabhie (1976), Trishul (1978), Kala Patthar (1979), Silsila (1981) are Yash Chopra's best films. As a director, Yash Chopra, along with the king of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan, made successful films like Darr, Dil To Pagal Hai, Veer Zaara and Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

 

Shahrukh Khan was made a superstar

- Shahrukh played the role of Rahul Mehra in 'Dar'. Very few people know that Shahrukh Khan was not Yash Chopra's first choice. At that time, this role was offered to Ajay Devgan but due to lack of dates, Ajay Devgan refused the film.

Then when Aamir Khan was talked about for this, he also did not show interest in it. Because Aamir did not want to do a negative role. It is said that after this the relations between Aamir and Yash ji had deteriorated considerably.

 

Aamir-Yash Chopra's relationship got spoiled because of Shahrukh

- After Ajay Devgan and Aamir's refusal, this role finally came to Shahrukh. Sunny Deol played the role of hero in the film but the role of villain became more popular and Shahrukh became a superstar overnight with this film.

- Shahrukh and Sunny Deol never worked together after this film. In an interview, Sunny Deol had expressed his displeasure and said that 'in the film, the villain was presented in a more powerful manner than the hero. When I came to know that the ending of the film is so gold, I was surprised.

 

Shahrukh got popularity from the film 'Dar'

- After doing this role, Shahrukh was also afraid that his career might end but exactly the opposite happened. This happened for the first time in the history of Bollywood when a villain got more popularity than the hero.

- In 2001, he was awarded India's highest cinema honor Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his brilliant contribution to Hindi cinema. Switzerland was Yash Chopra's favorite destination for shooting films.

- On 25 October 2010, he was also awarded the Ambassador of Interlaken Award in Switzerland. There is also a road named after him in Switzerland and a train has also been run there.

- In an interview given to Shahrukh Khan on his birthday, about a month before his death, Yash Chopra said that Jab Tak Hai Jaan would be the last film directed by him. After this he will retire and give more time to his family. In 2005 he was awarded the Padma Bhushan.
