Yash Chopra wanted to become an engineer

Yash Chopra was born in Lahore on 27 September 1932. He studied in Lahore. In 1945, his family settled in Ludhiana, Punjab. Yash Chopra came to Mumbai with the desire to become an engineer. But fate had something else in store.

Yash Chopra's elder brother BR Chopra was also a well-known producer-director of Bollywood. Yash ji worked as a co-director with his brother at the beginning of his career. He worked in films like 'Naya Daur', 'Ek Hi Raasta' and 'Sadhana'.

Brought stardom to many stars

- As a director, Yash ji made his first film 'Dhool Ka Phool' in the year 1959. Made Dharamputra in 1961 and multi-starrer film 'Waqt' in 1965. He directed 22 films and produced 51 films.

- In 1973, he founded the production company Yash Raj Films. During the days of struggle, many artists refused to take wages from him, but Yash Chopra paid them the full amount. Yash Chopra gave stardom status to many stars through his films.
