Yoodlee Films’ ‘Axone’ Gets Selected For BFI London Film Festival And The Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival

Yoodlee Films has consistently produced cinema that has been widely feted and lauded in film festivals all over the world. Ranging across a diverse group of subjects that are both compelling and relevant, the films have always been conversation starters with audiences. Now, making some well-deserved noise is the latest film from Yoodlee stable, Axone. A bitter-sweet comedy, Axone, has recently been announced as an official selection two very prestigious film festivals: the 63rd BFI London Film Festival and the 21st Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. Considered one of the top 10 film festivals in the world, the BFI London Film Festival was started in 1953 and has screened some of the best work in cinema in recent decades. Closer home, the MAMI film festival is an annual favourite, which has steadily gained in prestige and audience appreciation from year to year.

'Axone' is written and directed by Nicholas Kharkongor and deals with the topic of racism in a cheeky and humorous way. Set in Delhi over the course of one day, the film tells the story of two girls from the North East who set out to cook a pungent dish called Axone to celebrate the wedding of another friend. They grapple with neighbours who hate the smell of the dish, outright racism and the upheavals of their interpersonal relationships in this comic quest. The film stars a talented ensemble of young and old actors that include Vinay Pathak, Dolly Ahluwalia, Sayani Gupta, Lin Laishram and Tenzin Dalha.

Nicholas Kharkongor, Director of Axone, says, “I am thrilled that Axone has been selected at BFI London Film Festival and MAMI this year, two extremely prestigious film festivals. This is a very personal story. I have lived outside the Northeast for over 20 years. For a long time, I have wanted to make a film about the Northeastern experience of living in the city: about a tiny community of (mostly) young people who, in the way that they look, eat, dress and speak - sets them apart from the rest. But I didn’t want to make a bleak film. Because the truth is also that we find a lot of acceptance and love in the city; and for many of us, the city is home. So the result is this funny and bittersweet film that gives you a peek into the lives of an oft-maligned community living on the fringes of society, celebrating their difference.”
