God creates human beings and true talent can bring human characters alive . Was Kanhaiyalal , the multi talented man who specialised in playing the wicked and scheming side of man one of God's special and unique creations who could play a villainous character to glorify the good , one of the most natural actors ?

Was Kanhaiyalal not given his due while he was still alive ? Would legendary actors like Motilaal , Dilip Kumar , Raaj Kumar and Jeetendra' be in awe of his talent ?

Dilip Kumar had once said that he had anxious moments on the sets only when he had to face Kanhaiyalal , the actress Leela Mishra and years later when he saw the performance of Nana Patekar in "Krantiveer ".

That the legend did three films with Kanhaiyalal , "Ganga Jamuna " "Ram Aur Shyaam" and "Gopi" and an unfinished film called "Rahgir" speaks more than volumes for the calibre of Kanhaiyalal as a perfect actor .

Kanhaiyalal Chaturvedi who had his background in theatre in Banaras , now Varanasi and the Lok Sabha constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi .

It was his passion to grow as an actor and even as a writer and director that brought him to Bombay where he did small roles and even wrote screenplays and dialogue for a few films .

But it was a chance opportunity that made him face the camera for the first time and he had discovered the actor in him after his very first shot in which he had to speak his dialogue which was one full page long and he emerged triumphant with his very first attempt .

It was this effort and his success to make the scene memorable that got him many more offers .

But , little did he know that he was on the verge of creating a milestone when he played Sukhi Laala in Mehboob Khan's "Aurat" and then played the same role in Mehboob' s classic film , "Mother India".

The character of Sukhi Lala and the way he played it made him as good as a star . Today , almost sixty years later , Kanhaiyalal is remembered as Sukhi Lala .

With Sukhi Lala , started a long list of characters that this born brilliant actor followed and from the beginning to 1982 , he played one role after another which were marked out for his amazing brilliance. Kanhaiyalal worked in hundred and five films and worked till the end of his life till 1982.

In any other country , Kanhaiyalal would have been honoured and recognised for his immense and inspiring contribution .

In India , where awards are given to any one and everyone and the Padma Awards are even given to citizens of other countries , the least that any government could do was to award Kanhaiyalal with a Padmashri and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award would have done honour to itself if it did honour to this absolutely amazing actor .

And I am not doing a favour to this great actor by mentioning and even recommending his name for these awards, I am just adding my opinion to the opinions of thousands of his admirers .

And till someone like the PM who represents Varanasi , the birth place of Kanhaiyalal , I feel elated to let the admirers of the actor who was ahead of his time , I must let people know that his daughter , Ms Hemaa Singh is making all out and intense efforts to make a documentary ( or is it a docudrama ?) on her "Babuji " and in a doubly inspired move , she is also writing a biography about her Babuji .

The documentary is being given the finishing touches by Hemaa Singh in Noida where she has been ever since the lockdown .

The documentary is to be released first and the biography is expected to be released at a function in Mumbai on August 14, 2021 , unless Covid19 plays one more of its nasty games .

There has been a lot of research that Hemaa has put into the documentary. And as a shower of blessings on her efforts , she has Dharmendra , Amitabh Bachchan , Asha Parekh , Jackie Shroff and Govinda giving their views on the great actor .

Danny Denzongpa , Gulshan Grover and other eminent people are expected to add their own contribution soon .

The book is being published by Mr Surjit Singh from California who has a vast knowledge about Indian Cinema , and has published several books .

The next few months are going to be very hectic and crucial for Ms Hemaa Singh . Lekin , ek mahan Babuji ke liye ek pyari beti ko itna toh karna hi padega , na ?
